The rumour that Apple may be making a smartwatch called the Apple iWatch in 2014 is getting more meat and details as other rumours pop up. One of the latest is that we may be getting two types or sizes of Apple iWatch come this 2014, a 1.7-inch Apple iWatch for men and a 1.3-inch Apple iWatch for women. This rumour comes courtesy of analyst David Hsieh who has been quite accurate so far about previous Apple products. While this prediction does not mention how exactly each Apple iWatch may look or what tech specs they may have, it is a very logical conclusion. Traditionally, watches are very different in terms of size for men and women, after all, you probably won't see a large Rolex or sports watch on a woman's wrist or vice versa. While Apple have traditionally followed the one-size-fits-all design paradign they recently changed this approach when they released the Apple iPhone 5S and Apple iPhone 5C, so the rumour of two different Apple iWatch smartwatches according to gender sounds like the right way to go. As usual, do take this with a pinch of salt, as a rumour remains a rumour until it is proven.

Tim Cook, current CEO of Apple was recently quoted as saying that there are:
"great new products in areas where [Apple does] not participate today".
While he went on to say nothing really concrete, many are taking this as a sign that Apple may soon launch a new product category in 2014, especially since he referred to products coming "across 2014". With Apple already having computers, desktops, notebooks, tablets and smartphones, a new product category could very likely be the upcoming Apple iWatch smartwatch. So far there are little to no tech specs or features regarding the iWatch with many expecting it to come in late 2014. While they don't confirm anything, Tim Cook's comments could indicate that we'll be seeing an Apple iWatch (this could still be an Apple TV though) sooner than that.

While we didn't get an Apple iWatch announcement yesterday, it doesn't mean that some people aren't still hopeful. For those of you looking at possibilities (Apple iWatch design team, hint, hint) Thomas Bogner came up with an awesome concept render design which looks like it would work great. The design looks a lot like the Nike Fuelband although we wonder if it is a bracelet like the Fuelband or the bottom part opens up like a latch. Quite a number of Apple iWatch smartwatch concepts have been cooked up already but with the iWatch supposedly set for a late 2014 release we're feeling a bit skeptical. As usual, since this is not an official Apple render or press image do take this with a pinch of salt. We admit it would be great if it did come true, but for now, check out the other iWatch concepts in this article.

It appears that while many are still in search of the "Internet of things" or literally the ability to link everyday items to the Internet easily this ability has been linked to the upcoming Apple iWatch smartwatch. This is by far one of the more outlandish rumours, mainly because Apple isn't very well known in home automation. The rumour comes courtesy of parts suppliers who say that the Apple iWatch could be used as the main remote control for home automation. While we certainly don't see an Apple iFridge or iBlender in the horizon, it could just as easily be a general purpose Bluetooth or WiFi enabled power switch which would connect to the iWatch or just related to Apple iPod sound systems and the like. However, this begs the questions, "Why the iWatch? Why not the iPhone, iPod touch or other Apple products?" As always, take this rumour with a pinch of salt, and we will keep you updated as to any new developments. As usual of a rumour involving a device expected to arrive many months down the line, there were no tech specs, features, Malaysia release dates or pricing details just yet.

The rumoured Apple iWatch set for a 2014 reveal may have a flexible display as new rumours surface that Apple are working on 3 designs for the smartwatch using flexible displays. These rumours come from Korean media who are the likely makers of said flexible displays like Samsung's Youm and LG's flexible OLED displays. According to these reports, Apple is looking at 1.3-inch, 1.4-inch and 1.5-inch display sizes while "a prototype of the 1.5-inch has already been made". Unfortunately, no other tech specs or features were mentioned and we again have no Malaysia release dates or pricing for the Apple iWatch. Previous rumours indicate that we could see the Apple iWatch in late 2014, which could be the next IFA event and along with a possible iPhone 6 announcement. As usual, stay tuned and we'll keep you posted.

Before the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch was revealed, the hype machine put out all sorts of rumours that it would be the wearable tech device to beat, especially since Apple's iWatch isn't due until mid 2014. However, when it was revealed it didn't really get the sort of dominating presence Samsung were hoping for especially since the smartwatch can't last more than a day on a single charge. While in terms of features it does lead the pack, the fact that it currently only works with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has made things worse for the smartwatch. Rumours have it that the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch is currently under development and should be revealed during CES 2014 in January. These rumours claim that the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch may come with a GPS, better battery life and be able to connect to all Android smartphones. No Malaysia pricing or release dates just yet but we're guessing that the price won't be far off from the original Gear which retailed at $299 (RM981).

While Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch is expected to be revealed in early September 2013, an analyst from the CIMB Group has said that the Apple iWatch may come in late 2014 and not early 2014 as many have thought. According to this analyst the iWatch will be priced from $149 (RM494) to $229 (RM760) and positioned to replace Apple's iPod range of media players. Since this is a financial analyst, the predictions go on to estimate that the iWatch will ship up to 63.4 million units in 2014 alone and will generate up to 19% worth of profits for Invetec, the company said to be manufacturing the Apple iWatch. As it is just a prediction and a really far ahead one at that, we caution you to take this rumour with one big pinch of salt. Unfortunately, there weren't any tech specs, features or exact Malaysia release dates but stay tuned as we'll keep you updated about the latest iWatch developments.

While the Apple iWatch definitely looks to become a reality soon, there has been little to no news as to how the iWatch may actually look. A concept render by designer Stephen Olmstead shows how Apple could do a stylish yet realistic iWatch without having to make it look like a "rectangular screen bolted onto a watch band" as Olmstead puts it. Going for a simple rounded watch look, the concept uses an e-ink display for longer battery life and postulates that it could be used as a tether or remote camera shutter trigger along with Siri voice commands. It is by no means an official render though, but all in all, the concept looks very achievable yet retains the same look and feel of a stylish leather watch so do check out all the images below for yourself.

Apple really comes up with some interesting patents and one of their more recent patents sounds particularly well suited for devices with small screens, which also sounds particularly well suited for Apple's upcoming iWatch. The patent in question is for a bezel technology that disappears (and becomes touch capable) and reappears (becoming insensitive bezel) when needed. Believe it or not, bezels are quite necessary for most touchscreen devices as they help offer a place to grip, however, for a small touchscreen like on the upcoming iWatch, having a situation where you need a bit more space could come in handy.
