    Malaysian Banks advise customers to update devices to prevent online scams

    Malaysia’s banking industry is stepping up its cybersecurity messaging, as member banks of the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) jointly urge customers to keep their web browsers and mobile devices fully updated. The move comes amid rising online scams and malware threats that increasingly exploit outdated software and unsupported operating systems.

    The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) released findings from their third annual public survey on scam awareness, conducted by Rakuten Insight between March and April 2025. The survey collected responses from 1000 Malaysians nationwide.

    In an ongoing combat of phone scams, the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) have issued a press release to remind the public that member banks will NEVER ask for sensitive customer information. This includes online banking usernames and passwords, and credit or debit card numbers via phone calls.
