Recently, there was a leaked image that surfaced on slashleaks.com, which showcased what seems to look like the upcoming ZenFone smartphone. ASUS Live smartphone launched in Brazil, doesn't look like most ZenFones

The ASUS Live smartphone was recently launched in Brazil for $210 (RM921) and it doesn't have the name or look of most other ASUS ZenFone smartphones. Apart from the non-ZenFone name, it is also missing the standard concentric circle design and looks to follow the same body and full metallic looking frame of the ZenFone Max despite being made out of plastic. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details but it could mark how upcoming ASUS smartphones may look like. Tech specs are as follows:

    • 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580 processor
    • 2GB RAM
    • 16GB storage + microSD
    • 5-inch display (IPS, 720 x 1280 pixel resolution)
    • 8MP rear camera (LED flash) + 2MP front camera
    • supports 3G and dual SIM
    • 144.5 x 71 x 9.98mm | 140g
    • 2070 mAh battery
    • Android 5.1 Lollipop

Teaser Video reveals ASUS ZenFone II with dual LED flash and rear controls

ASUS had already confirmed that it would release a number of new ZenFone smartphones at the upcoming CES 2015 event to be held in Las Vegas from 5 January 2015. Now, the company has released a teaser video which shows off one of the devices that will be announced at the event. The teaser is pretty short and does not reveal much about the upcoming device which could be the ASUS ZenFone II range of smartphones. However, it does give us a glimpse of what appears to be a brushed metal backside, circular metallic button and a rear camera setup which includes dual LED flash and rear controls. ASUS is expected to announce the device at CES next year at an event which they have titled Experience 2Morrow, which isn't too far off. Expect more details like Malaysia release dates and pricing after the event. Check out the video below for yourself:

  • Asus to unveil new ZenFone models a day before CES 2015

Asus to unveil new ZenFone models a day before CES 2015

ASUS has scheduled a press event on 5 January 2015, exactly a day before CES 2015. In the event, called "Experience 2omorrow", the company is expected to release a number of new ZenFone smartphones, including a 5.5-inch model. The entire event will be streamed live on the ASUS website. Most of the ZenFone models to be released next year are said to run on Intel's chipsets, just like current generation devices. There are also rumors that some may be powered by Mediatek processors. ASUS ZenFone smartphones are well-known for their decent specifications at an affordable price tag and the newer models are expected to retail under RM1100. The ZenFone smartphones running Intel chips are said to come with 4G LTE support and will be priced around $300 (RM1050). On the other hand, the Mediatek powered ZenPhones will be cheaper, around $150 (RM525) and will be limited to local Chinese markets. ASUS aims to launch the ZenFone lineup in 20 countries instead of the present 14 by next year. The company also plans to double its total units sold - from 8 million in 2014 to 16 million in 2015. The three main ZenFone models, the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6 were launched in Malaysia early this year and we expect these new models to come around the same time next year, perhaps in March or April 2015.

  • Rumours: ASUS Malaysia to open up online store in November 2014?

Rumours: ASUS Malaysia to open up online store in November 2014?

Quite a few smartphone manufacturers here in Malaysia have had problems with local distributors either in jacking up prices or even not selling according to the promotion at hand. Many have sought to solve this by offering their own online store but this too has had problems with many of them offering much-wanted smartphones or devices in batches. While this may help raise the hype, quite a few users end up thinking it is a publicity stunt or getting disgruntled with the brand and online service. It seems that ASUS Malaysia may soon be opening up their own online store sometime in November 2014 in part to help users get products like the ASUS ZenFone smartphones and ASUS Fonepad tablets at the price offered. Our anonymous tipster says that they won't be selling in batches like other official online stores but we'll hopefully find out more in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more information but as always with such rumours do take this with a pinch of salt.

    Thanks anonymous tipster!

  • ASUS Japan could be coming out with new ZenFone and ZenWatch

ASUS Japan could be coming out with new ZenFone and ZenWatch

We could soon see new ASUS ZenFone smartphones and a new ZenWatch in the next 4 to 5 days as ASUS Japan has revealed a countdown timer page with teaser images of a ZenFone and a ZenWatch. While this could just be a local Japan release for the ZenWatch it seems unlikely for an existing ZenFone since most of them have already been released. There are still no Malaysia release dates or pricing for the ASUS ZenWatch smartwatch or for a new ZenFone smartphone just yet though. For Malaysia, ASUS have revealed the ZenFone 4ZenFone 5ZenFone 6, a ZenFone 4 with a 4.5-inch screen and the ZenFone 5 LTE. Is it the ZenFone 5 with a 5.5-inch display? The teaser image certainly seems so, as it looks too thin to be a ZenFone 4 and not wide enough to be ZenFone 6. Personally, we're still waiting for a ZenFone 6 LTE but it could just as likely be a refresh of the Intel Atom processors being used on the ZenFone smartphones. Stay tuned for more developments as the countdown time indicates we'll find out more on 28 November 2014.

Rumours: ASUS ZenFone Malaysia release date and pricing revealed?

The recently announced ASUS ZenFone smartphones offer some really interesting features with the ZenFone UI being one of them, but what many Malaysians are most interested in is the price and when or if the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 will arrive in Malaysia. Recently, we heard some news that the ASUS ZenFone range could be coming to Malaysia in April 2014 direct from ASUS Malaysia. Furthermore, we received an anonymous tip that the ASUS ZenFone 4 could be priced from RM250 while the ASUS ZenFone 5 could get a price range of around RM450 to RM700. The larger ASUS ZenFone 6 phablet could go for around RM700 to RM900 with the overall pricing expected to be below RM1K. US pricing for the ZenFone range was $99 (RM324) for the ZenFone 4, $149 (RM487) for the ZenFone 5 and $199 (RM651) for the ZenFone 6. While you should take every rumour with a pinch of salt, we think this is a very exciting rumour nonetheless especially for fellow Malaysians looking for a good deal (and a good yet affordable smartphone). In the meantime check out the tech specs and video in this article for a refresher of the ASUS ZenFone 4, 5 and 6 smartphones.
