Samsung Smart Home service platform takes a step towards home automation for CES 2014

Just like LG, Samsung are also going to offer a home automation service platform which they have named Smart Home. This platform will be cloud-based and allow you to control devices, view your home (from devices with cameras) and get servicing information like when you should clean or service your connected devices. The Smart Home platform will also allow voice commands through devices like your Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch or smartphone. Samsung has said that this is mostly for the future as the platform service will also include functions for home-energy, security, healthcare and eco home applications. Samsung will be showing the Smart Home service platform off at CES 2014 but will roll out the service by Q2 of 2014. No news yet on pricing but it will likely be free in the beginning. For now, check out the video about it last year for a refresher.

Affordable Archos smartwatches and more coming to CES 2014

Archos is usually better known for their affordable tablets but they have recently announced that they will be bringing a number of new and affordable devices to CES 2014. This includes a number of Archos smartwatches that may cost less than $50 (RM164). The Archos smartwatch in the picture looks a lot like the pebble smartwatch but there is no news on other tech specs, features or functions available for these supposedly affordable smartwatches. In related news, Archos will also be bringing a 7-inch tablet called the Smart Home tablet, an activity tracker, a blood pressure monitor, a home camera and a weather station to the show under a main theme called Archos Connected Home. All of these Archos devices will use Bluetooth LE and should be compatible with Android and iOS devices. Check out the devices in the article.

  • LG to reveal 105-inch curved 4K+ display LCD TV at CES 2014

LG to reveal 105-inch curved 4K+ display LCD TV at CES 2014

While they've already beat everyone to the punch by releasing a 77-inch curved 4K OLED TV, LG are going a step further by announcing that they will reveal a 105-inch Curved screen LCD TV at CES 2014. The major difference here asides from the extra 38 inches is that the screen will be LCD based and not OLED which is more expensive to make. This is thought to be due to better TFT technology that has resulted in a more even backlight over the curved screen surface. This new LG LCD TV may be named the 105UB9 and offer a pixel resolution of up to 5120 x 2160 making it a 4K+ UHD TV. While it may be less expensive to manufacture LG have yet to reveal any pricing or other tech specs just yet so we'll have to wait for January 2014 for that. No Malaysia release dates were available either but we can't imagine it being bought for normal consumer purposes, unless you've got your own mini movie theater of course.
