Canon announces development of 250MP APS-H sensor that can fit into a DSLR

Canon recently announced the development of their new Canon 250MP APS-H CMOS Sensor and that it can fit into the body of a consumer-level DSLR digital camera. Granted, the sensor is actually 246.7MP but if you round things up it you should get the aforementioned 250MP. Tech specs show that the actual APS-H sensor measures 29.2mm x 20.2mm and has a readout speed of 1.25 billion pixels per second, which translates to highest resolution images at five frames per second. According to Canon their new APS-H sensor installed in a camera is capable of "distinguishing of lettering on the side of an airplane flying at a distance of approximately 18 km from the shooting location". Canon previously announced a 50MP sensor in 2007 and recently released 50MP DSLRs with the Canon EOS 5Ds and 5Ds R this year. This could mean we'll see 250MP DSLRs in 2023 but for now Canon intends to offer the APS-H sensor for surveillance and crime prevention. There is no mention of any Malaysia release or pricing details of course, but it does offer a glimpse of the future.
