Canon EOS 5D series hits 10 year mark

Canon recently announced the celebration of the 10th year anniversary for the introduction of the Canon EOS 5D and the subsequent models that followed. Launched in September 2005, the original EOS 5D was a digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera that was aimed at advanced-amateur users and came with a 35mm full-frame sensor, something which was previously only available to professional users. Following this, the EOS 5D Mark II enabled full HD video while the EOS 5D Mark III featured significant improvements to image and video quality. According to Canon, it will continue to support and drive the EOS 5D series by further strengthening the EOS-series of interchangeable-lens camera lineup. While there are no specific models or Malaysia release dates named, we should expect more soon.

Today's latest smartphones can now record 4K video and this includes the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Wanting to see just how far today's smartphone cameras have gone, photographer Alec Weinstein paired up the Galaxy Note 3's 13MP camera against a Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR with a SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. Bear in mind that the EOS 5D Mark III has been tweaked somewhat to get similar colour, contrast, saturation and sharpening, but the results are still decidedly better for the Galaxy Note 3. Granted, the Galaxy Note 3 is recording in 4K video but the resulting video has been downsized to 1080p and that the EOS 5D Mark III is definitely an excellent camera. Check out the video for yourself below and marvel with us at how far cameraphones have got:
