Malaysia’s Communications Ministry has been busy lately. Yesterday, Alexander Nanta Linggi from Gabungan Parti Sarawak had a meeting with Communications Minister YB Fahmi Fadzil over the matter of unstable mobile signals and interrupted calls along major highways. It seems that the government is launching a focused initiative to improve connectivity nationwide.

As expected, scams about the RM100 aid by the Malaysian government have recently surfaced. The Communications Ministry has sent out a warning over a wave of fraudulent websites and social media posts impersonating government portals to exploit the public’s interest.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that the Government is considering making it mandatory for AI-generated content to be labelled as such. The requirement is touted to be part of the upcoming Online Safety Act 2024, which is expected to come into force by the end of 2025.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has announced that Malaysia will launch Guidelines for Responsible AI Communication, which will provide a critical framework to support professionals across media, public relations and digital content creation. He added that the guidelines will complement the National AI Roadmap and uphold ethical, transparent and trustworthy communication practices.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that among all social media platforms in Malaysia, Telegram has the lowest rate of compliance with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) requests to remove harmful content. Accordingly, the Minister has ordered MCMC to call Telegram for a meeting next week.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that Facebook, TikTok and YouTube have agreed to remove 159,518 pieces of harmful content as of 11 June in Malaysia. He added that this figure was part of 174,473 online content takedown requests made so far this year.

The Communications Ministry has announced the provision of the RAHMAH incentive rebate to all Malaysians on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. In a statement, the ministry elaborated that the incentive involves a minimum of an additional 5GB of data for Malaysian prepaid and postpaid users.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching has revealed that the Government is planning to create a platform for users to file complaints challenging the removal of content on social media. She added that this platform would be established under the Online Safety Bill 2024.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that 3,670 pornographic websites have been blocked in Malaysia from 2022 to 15 February 2025. Furthermore, 1,993 pornographic social media content was also taken down by platform providers in our country.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching revealed that the 5G network coverage in Kelantan has reached 67% in populated areas. She further revealed that 232 5G stations have been completed in the state last year.
