As predicted, AI systems on smartphones are becoming the trend brands want to follow. Even MediaTek seems keen on facilitating access to AI on smartphones. Of course, it'll be through their mobile SoCs.

If you look at chipsets for the smartphone market, it's more or less a two-horse race between Qualcomm and MediaTek. Both companies are expected to launch their latest flagship mobile chipset later this month. Best of all, we're already getting details for the latter's new Dimensity 9300.

For the longest time, ARM-based chipsets followed the ARM big.LITTLE concept. The idea is to have a CPU with performance cores and power efficiency cores. But we could see a new MediaTek chipset later this year that abandons or changes that concept.

When it comes to flagship chipsets, the GPU is often as important as the CPU. That's especially true for gaming smartphones, which are catered to mobile gamers. For MediaTek, mobile GPU has never been an area of expertise so the company decided to partner up with Nvidia.
