Google also announces their first Android tablet with the Pixel C

Google have long had a hand in smartphones with their Nexus smartphones but are now venturing into the hybrid tablet space with the Pixel C which they say is the first Android tablet built end-to-end by Google. Featuring an aluminum body with a 10.2-inch display that packs in a 2560 x 1800 pixel resolution, the tablet comes with an optional and detachable Bluetooth keyboard that latches on with magnets. The keyboard can be latched on to the front and back and is also charged inductively via the tablet when not in use. Tech specs for the Pixel C tablet include an NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, a USB Type-C port and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details but it is expected to start from $499 (RM2219) for the 32GB storage version and $599 (RM2664) for the 64GB storage version. The keyboard will go for $149 (RM662).

  • Google announces Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X

Google announces Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X

As expected, Google have announced their latest additions to the Nexus series of smartphones with the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X. Both smartphones come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, a fingerprint sensor, dual front speakers, USB Type-C ports and a 12.3MP rear camera with super large 1.55-micron pixel Sony sensor that can record 4K video at 30fps. Quite obviously the Huawei Nexus 6P is the more premium of the two with an all metal body and 5.7-inch 2K or quad HD display. Measuring in at 159.3 x 77.8 x 7.3mm thin, the Nexus 6P features tech specs that include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 32GB/64GB/128GB storage, 8MP front camera and 3450 mAh battery with quick charging.

The LG Nexus 5X is no slouch either but tech specs are a bit more midrange with a Snapdragon 808 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB storage, 5.2-inch FHD display, 5MP front camera and 2700 mAh battery. Both of the new Nexus smartphones do not have expandable memory or microSD slots, don't support wireless charging and don't have Optical Image Stabilization. In any case, there are still no Malaysia release dates or pricing details just yet but the Nexus 6P is priced from $499 (RM2219) for the 32GB storage version while the Nexus 5X starts at $379 (RM1686) for the 16GB storage version. Both will be available on the Google Play store in the US but we expect it to start shipping out elsewhere starting from 19 October for the Nexus 5X.

  • Rumours: Huawei made Nexus phone coming soon?

Rumours: Huawei made Nexus phone coming soon?

While there have been rumours about two Google Nexus devices this time around, with both Huawei and LG rumoured to be making one each, neither one has been confirmed. Recently, a report has come out that an unnamed Huawei employee has confirmed the Huawei Nexus phone. According to this source, Huawei and Google are working together to enable many of the Google services in China where Huawei is based (most Google services are banned in China) with possible workarounds or solutions coming up. We expect that Huawei may just replace said services with Baidu and others while the rest of us get the Google-based version. So far, there are no tech specs or features mentioned yet, but the previous rumours indicate a Huawei Nexus with a 5.7-inch 2K display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which seems a bit out of line with the company's stance on full HD displays and use of their own Kirin processors. We expect a flat and thin yet curvy design much like the current Huawei P8 or perhaps a device similar to the Huawei P8 Max. As always, do take this with a grain of salt as neither side have officially confirmed it yet.

  • Lenovo Google Nexus 6 concept render goes for colour and curves

Lenovo Google Nexus 6 concept render goes for colour and curves

While the Google Nexus 5 is still a fairly new smartphone, many are already wondering how the next version, theGoogle Nexus 6 smartphone may look like. True, LG made the last two Google Nexus smartphones, but new rumours indicate that we could see the next version being made by Lenovo, which recently bought out Motorola. This has resulted in a concept render from 91mobiles.com which is both curved and colourful. Tech specs and features are still mostly rumours but point towards a 3GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB / 64GB / 128GB storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, a 5.2-inch curved display with full HD 1080p pixel resolutions. It could also have a self-healing backside, although if it does have such a LG G Flex-like feature, it seems more likely that it would be made by LG than Lenovo. No news on Malaysia pricing or release dates but we're expecting the Google Nexus 6 to get announced in Q4 of 2014, around the same time as the Google Nexus 5 announcement last year. For now, check out the concept render in this article.

  • Rumours: Did Google accidentally leak a Nexus 8 tablet?

Rumours: Did Google accidentally leak a Nexus 8 tablet?

While it wouldn't be the first time Google accidentally leaked one of their own devices, some sharp eyed industry watchers saw what could have been an 8-inch android tablet on the Android Apps and Entertainment page. Many surmised that it could be the Google Nexus 8 as it offered much thinner bezels but a more or less similar form factor to the Google Nexus 7 (2013 edition). Google has since made changes to this image by adding on thicker bezels to make it look more like the 7-inch Google Nexus 7. While it could have just as easily been a simple goof on the part of a careless graphic designer, we're thinking that the post-edit more or less confirms that we could be seeing an 8-inch tablet or Google Nexus 8 pretty soon.

  • Rumours: Sharper New Nexus 7 images Appear, Priced at $229

Rumours: Sharper New Nexus 7 images Appear, Priced at $229

After the recent blurry shots revealing the new Nexus 7 or Nexus 7 II, new information and pics have surfaced. This time around we've got some new (and better looking) images of the 7-inch tablet from @evleaks. The press renders reveal a more matte backside and the rear camera (which according to rumours could be 5MP or 8MP). While nothing else seems to be different from the current Nexus 7 tablet, it should be noteworthy that the interface is timed at 4.30 which may be a clue that the Nexus 7 II will be running Android 4.3 when it launches.
