Today, Google has introduced an upgraded fraud protection feature under Google Play Protect for all Android users in Malaysia. The move is part of a broader effort to combat rising financial scams by preventing the installation of potentially harmful apps, particularly those installed outside official app stores. The rollout is supported by the National Cyber Security Agency under the National Security Council, reinforcing a coordinated national push to improve digital safety.

With many apps roaming on the Play Store, it can be hard to separate the safe and dodgy ones at times. Thankfully, Google will launch a new feature to remedy this issue. That said, what should you know about the Google Play Protect?

Google recently weighed in online via Mark Risher, Senior Director for Account Security, Identity, and Abuse about the current online security COVID-19 situation. On Google’s side, Google Meet, GMail and Google Play Protect for example have mostly built-in automatic protections but there are a number of checkup tools to see if you’re safe or not and the advice on what to do about it. On our part, we’ve seen a marked increase in such scams.
