Rumours: Huawei and Honor smartphones getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow update listed?

According to some leaked roadmaps, certain Huawei and Honor smartphones should be getting their Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates. Of course, they'll all be using EMUI so we expect the current EMUI 3.1 to get an upgrade as well. No Malaysia release dates just yet but rumours indicate that the builds will start being made in November, so you can probably expect updates to appear either the end of the year or in 2016. For now, you can check out the lists below to find out if your Huawei or Honor device will be getting an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

  • Huawei Mediapad M2 officially announced, maybe coming to Malaysia for 1588 CNY (RM972)?

Huawei Mediapad M2 officially announced, maybe coming to Malaysia for 1588 CNY (RM972)?

The Huawei Mediapad M2 has appeared before in France but recently it got it's official launching, which means we could soon see it coming here to Malaysia. Tech specs and features are surprisingly similar to the Huawei P8, with a premium metal body, Kirin 930 processor and 3GB of RAM. While there is already a 6.8-inch display Huawei P8 Max, the Mediapad M2 packs in an 8-inch full HD display instead. The Mediapad M2 does decrease the camera specs though but even then, you don't often see an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera on a tablet. Design-wise, the Mediapad M8 is 7.88mm thin but the overall flat and thin design with curvy corners remains the same. Features also include 4G LTE connectivity and dual 1W speakers with Harmon Kardon Clari-Fi audio technology while a 4800 mAh battery keeps the lights on. No Malaysia release dates yet, but we expect the Mediapad X2 to arrive first. Pricing for the Huawei Mediapad M2 start at 1588 CNY (RM972) for the 16GB WiFi only version, 1888 CNY (RM1155) for the 16GB 4G LTE versions and 2288 CNY (RM1400) for the 64GB 4G LTE version.

  • Rumours: Huawei made Nexus phone coming soon?

Rumours: Huawei made Nexus phone coming soon?

While there have been rumours about two Google Nexus devices this time around, with both Huawei and LG rumoured to be making one each, neither one has been confirmed. Recently, a report has come out that an unnamed Huawei employee has confirmed the Huawei Nexus phone. According to this source, Huawei and Google are working together to enable many of the Google services in China where Huawei is based (most Google services are banned in China) with possible workarounds or solutions coming up. We expect that Huawei may just replace said services with Baidu and others while the rest of us get the Google-based version. So far, there are no tech specs or features mentioned yet, but the previous rumours indicate a Huawei Nexus with a 5.7-inch 2K display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which seems a bit out of line with the company's stance on full HD displays and use of their own Kirin processors. We expect a flat and thin yet curvy design much like the current Huawei P8 or perhaps a device similar to the Huawei P8 Max. As always, do take this with a grain of salt as neither side have officially confirmed it yet.

Gionee Elife E8 and Marathon M5 officially announced for 3999 CNY (RM2401) and 2499 CNY (RM1501)

Joining the ranks of large but premium smartphones like the Huawei P8 Max is the Gionee Elife E8 smartphone which was recently and officially announced. No Malaysia release date or pricing details but it is being offered at 3999 CNY (RM2401) in China from 15 July 2015. However, it is the world's first smartphone to pack in dual 3010 mAh batteries (for a 6020 mAh battery) which they say will give the Marathon M5 a 4-day battery life. It will be available from 25 June 2015 but again with no specific Malaysia release dates yet.

Huawei P8 Lite available in Europe, coming to Malaysia soon?

Despite not being mentioned alongside the Huawei P8 and Huawei P8 Max, it turns out that the Huawei P8 Lite is still a very real smartphone. According to one seller in Europe, they have a good amount of stock ready for sale going for 79999HUF (RM1061). Tech specs and features include a 1.2GHz octa-core Kirin 620 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 5-inch display with 720p resolution, 13MP main camera, 5MP front camera and 2200 mAh battery. Unlike the Honor 4C which offers similar specs, the P8 Lite is thinner and comes with a more premium metal frame. Still no exact Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet but according to an anonymous source, Huawei could be bringing in the Huawei P8 Lite for Malaysia soon. This could indicate a launch just for the Huawei P8 Lite here in Malaysia as our other sources have said that there will not be a Malaysia launch for the Huawei P8, which is due for a regional launch in Singapore this June 2015.
