The LG G3 and LG G3 Stylus now available in Malaysia for RM1699 and RM799

Last week, LG Malaysia teased its current flagship, the LG G3 on its official Facebook page. The South Korean giant was expected to announce two new handsets in the country, the LG G3 and the LG G3 Stylus in the coming days. Now, LG has officially confirmed the release of the two handsets and they will be available for sale starting today from a number of LG Mobile dealers in Malaysia. The LG G3 is almost 7 months old, but it still has enough hardware to threaten the recent releases like the Motorola Moto X (2014), Nexus 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Tech specs include a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. On the outside there is a large 5.5-inch quad HD 2K pixel resolution display. The 13MP rear camera comes with OIS and Laser Autofocus, while the 2.1MP front camera can record up to 1080p videos. A 3000 mAh battery onboard to power all these specs. The G3 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, but LG has announced an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the device which should also make it to the G3 smartphones sold in Malaysia. The LG G3 Stylus will be a mid-range affordable smartphone with tech specs that include a quad-core Mediatek MT6582 processor, 1GB RAM and 13MP primary camera. The LG G3 and G3 Stylus will retail for a Malaysia price of RM1699 and RM799 respectively.

  • The LG G3 flagship is coming to Malaysia by end of 2014

The LG G3 flagship is coming to Malaysia by end of 2014

LG Malaysia could be bringing the LG G3 smartphone into Malaysia by the end of December 2014. The company has started teasing the flagship smartphone on its Facebook page indicating that they may be bringing it in officially. The LG G3 Stylus model could also make it around the same time, as the device was recently spotted in the SIRIM database. LG announced the G3 back in May, but the company did not reveal any plans for a Malaysia release. Interested individuals had to resort to third-party sellers for imported units. The G3 features top-notch tech specs with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage. The phone comes with one of the best displays in the market with a 5.5-inch quad HD (2560 x 1440 resolution) IPS display which translates into a pixel density of 538ppi. The 13MP camera on the back has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) with a unique Laser Auto Focus. On the front, there is a f/2.0 2.1MP camera sensor. All these tech specs are powered by the onboard 3000 mAh battery. The LG G3 Stylus on the other hand features a 5.5-inch 960 x 540 resolution display along with a Mediatek processor. Expect details like Malaysia pricing and Malaysia release dates in the next few days.

LG recently announced that their LG G3 smartphone will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update first, starting in Poland and spreading out to other areas afterwards. The new update also brings a number of new features including better security, an unlock feature via a pre-registered smartwatch and new Android RunTime (ART) libraries for better overall performance. While other LG smartphones and devices will be getting the update, here's what LG had to say about it:

The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.” Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

  • Rumours: LG G3 tech specs and images leaked at LG Netherlands

Rumours: LG G3 tech specs and images leaked at LG Netherlands

As is often the case these days, sometimes one of a company's official sites gets trigger happy and uploads all the information for it's upcoming smartphone a few days early. It isn't the first time it has happened, but this time around it happened to LG Netherlands, which uploaded the tech specs and images of the LG G3 just a few days before it's official unveiling. Tech specs which have been confirmed include a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB worth of storage, a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, 13MP rear camera, 3000 mAh battery, 146.3 x 74.7 x 8.9mm measurements and Android 4.4.2. Other notable features include a Google Now - like assistant along with a laser auto focus system for fast low-light focusing. Rumours indicate that the LG G3 will be able to support up to 2TB of microSD flash memory but this has yet to be confirmed yet. Still no Malaysia pricing or release dates just yet but we should find out more in the next couple of days.

  • Rumours: LG G3 press renders appear

Rumours: LG G3 press renders appear

Some fairly clear press renders of the upcoming LG G3 have appeared, showing off a brushed metal finish in gold, titan grey and silver. Despite the gold looking nice, we especially liked titan grey as it pulls off black with brushed metal perfectly. Tech specs for the LG G3 are expected to include a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, 5.5-inch display with 2K 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, 13MP OIS camera and two tone flash. No news yet on Malaysia release dates or pricing, but knowing how LG smartphones are treated in Malaysia, it seems like a slim chance that we may see any big launch for the LG G3. Hopefully, we're wrong but the LG G3 is expected to be launched on 27 May 2014.

  • Rumours: LG G3 to be waterproof and dustproof?

Rumours: LG G3 to be waterproof and dustproof?

In line with the waterproof Samsung Galaxy S5, reports out of Korea indicate that the next LG G3 smartphone could be waterproof and dustproof. So far, both Sony and Samsung are offering such smartphones while others are going for water resistant or dust resistant devices instead. The reports don't mention any other tech specs but the likelihood of LG doing this is quite high considering that every one else is. Do remember to take this rumour with a pinch of salt though as LG could just as likely go for a lesser water or dust resistant certification or have no proofing at all.

  • Rumours: LG G3 coming in May, G Pro 2 in February at MWC

Rumours: LG G3 coming in May, G Pro 2 in February at MWC

LG seems to be booming with new phones these days as rumours indicate that we may soon see the LG G3 and the LG Optimus G Pro 2. While the LG G2 was unveiled late last year in Q3, rumours indicate that the LG G3 may get it's official launching on 17 May 2014. Supposedly this is to counter the Samsung Galaxy S5 which is also expected to launch in March 2014. The LG Optimus G Pro 2 on the other hand is expected to be revealed at the upcoming MWC Expo in February 2014. So far, tech specs for the LG G3 could include a 2K resolution 5.5-inch display. The LG Optimus G Pro 2 on the other hand is expected to come with a 5.9-inch 2K display as well. Other tech specs or features are still unknown but many are hoping that we could see Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 805 and above in either of the smartphones along with an OIS camera. No news yet on Malaysia release dates or pricing though but stay tuned and we'll keep you updated.

  • LG Odin octa-core AnTuTu benchmark reveals big.LITTLE architecture

LG Odin octa-core AnTuTu benchmark reveals big.LITTLE architecture

The upcoming LG Odin octa-core chipset and processor rumoured to be used in the just as rumoured LG G3 has recently been benchmarked on AnTuTu. Scoring 27184, the reason for the lower performance (the LG G2 scored 35069) could be because the LG Odin was just clocked at 100MHz-1.0GHz. Considering that the Snapdragon 800 on the LG G2 is clocked at 2.26GHz we should be able to expect even better performance from the LG Odin. Then again, the higher clock speed does come at the price of a shorter battery life, so if the LG Odin could reach the same performance but offer better extended battery life, this would also be a good deal in our opinion. The benchmark also revealed that rather than run all 8 of the cores at the same time, the AnTuTu benchmark reveals that it is running the ARM big.LITTLE architecture where only one set of 4 cores are running at a time. Graphics performance was exceptionally high though, as it uses the PowerVR Series 6 GPU which is the same series used on the Apple iPhone 5S. Other tech specs and features include a 1080 x 1920 display resolution, 2GB of RAM, 4GB of storage and Android 4.2.2. The rather small 4GB of storage is to be expected though as this is probably still very much a prototype device. No news about Malaysia release dates or pricing for the LG G3 but with it just at prototype stage for now, it seems likely it could be in Q2 or Q3 of 2014.
