Previously, we reported that all six telcos in Malaysia have agreed to the Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) 5G service agreement prior to its deadline of 30 June 2022. Now, it looks like our country can finally move forward and have 5G connectivity accessible to the masses as the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) said that the 5G service will rollout by September 2022 at the latest.

We were pretty sceptical of whether the remaining telcos (particularly Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile) would join and agree to Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB)'s stake today. As you should know, today (30th of June) is the last day of the offer and it seems that they have agreed to it.

UPDATE: We have received a statement from Maxis that the line is restored. In their statement, they said "We would like to update our customers who were experiencing network disruptions earlier, that services are being restored gradually, and expect full restoration soon. We would like to once again thank our customers for their understanding and patience."

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has revealed that the government is willing to consider fiscal incentives to assist local telco companies in transitioning to 5G. These incentives are meant to mitigate any short-term commercial consequences of providing 5G services to their customers.
