In this short news, it has been announced that The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Headquarters and their old building will be closed for two days starting today (5 March). Just for your information, it doesn't mean that one of them have been contacted with the COVID-19 virus but rather as a step to focus on the safety and health of their employees.

A report yesterday recently revealed that 50 telecommunications towers will be built in Sabah starting from this year. Quoting Roslan Mohamad, Head of the Sabah State Office for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the report says that each of the communications towers are estimated to cost RM1.7 to RM1.8 million with total costs coming to RM290 million. They are expected to help support 5G telecommunications and improve 4G coverage.

Aside from paid subscription service like Astro or Netflix, technology like Android TV boxes provides us with access to TV shows and movies we don't normally have. But the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has warned that these Android Boxes are misusing the SIRIM and MCMC labels.

With 5G technology heading our way this year, Maxis has just announced that they have made a new record of achieving 2.96Gbps for single-user peak speeds. This was recorded at two of their trial sites in Subang Jaya recently, where they have been testing 200MHz of the 3.5GHz C-band spectrum.

Part of the 5G Malaysia Demonstration Projects announced by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the exhibit is meant to teach aquariaKLCC goers the importance and value in keeping our oceans clean while offering an engaging yet entertaining virtual experience.

The MCMC chairman has announced very recently, stating that up 32 5G sites across 6 states such as Kedah, Perak, Penang, Selangor, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur will be operational starting October 2019. Since it is a test, the sites mentioned will remain operational for as long as half a year to demonstrate it’s usage in agriculture, education, digital media, healthcare, manufacturing, oil and gas, smart cities, transportation and tourism.

Malaysia's National Fiberisation and Connectivity  plan (NFCP) recently got announced in August 2019 and this was quickly followed by allegations of it being an RM21.6 billion mega project to be chaired by OPCOM. MCMC has stepped forward to clarify though, with the first clarification being that the NFCP is not a mega project but a plan consisting of strategies, various infrastructure projects and more to be implemented over a period of 5 years. The earlier announced RM21.6 billion is also just an estimation and this can be reduced as more cost effective ways of deployment are carried out.
