During the presentation from Microsoft Malaysia's Windows 10 Anniversary update yesterday, there was no word on when the Windows 10 Mobile update would come, as it was only mentioned that it will come in the next few weeks. But don't fret, Windows 10 Mobile owners, because we might just get a hint of the next scheduled release date.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Windows (in ETD timezone) by Microsoft and as promised, a new Windows 10 Anniversary update has arrived and it's free for all Windows 10 users worldwide, featuring new upgrades such as Windows Ink, Windows Hello, a more accessible and power-efficient Microsoft Edge browser, advanced security features for both consumers and enterprises, such as the Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (WDATP) and Windows Information Protection. Just recently at InstructureCon, Canvas by Instructure, a leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology company that makes software that makes people smarter have made an announcement of their integration with Microsoft Office 365 to provide instructors and learners around the world with an improved educational experience.

As you may be already aware, a free Windows 10 upgrade will be ending on 29 July this month. If you haven't upgraded it, here's one good reason to do so, because since Microsoft Corp. decided that the free upgrade isn't enough, they have announced that on 2 August, a Windows 10 Anniversary Update will be coming to all Windows 10 devices for free. So what can the free upgrade offer?

While the Google browser Chrome is popular all over the world, it is resource hungry. It eats memory and battery like a hungry baby, and while Google has promised that they will try and fix this, no big difference is seen as of yet. Microsoft is drilling down the point further with the battery test that they did, comparing major web browsers of today.

According to a study by Forrester Consulting, there are still too many organizations in the sector lacking a thorough understanding of cloud-related banking regulations in order to completely embrace and take advantage of cloud computing. The study was commissioned by Microsoft, ‘Cloud is Critical to Digital Transformation in the Asia Pacific Financial Sector’, evaluated cloud adoption trends among FSI in Asia Pacific and gauged their knowledge and perceptions of cloud-related financial regulations.

An agreement between Microsoft and Xiaomi sees the two to cross license patents between them. At the same time Xiaomi will be preinstalling Microsoft apps such as Skype and Office into newly shipped devices come September.  

Yesterday at Computex 2016, Microsoft Corp. invited its Windows 10 hardware partners to create virtual reality (VR) devices, augmented reality devices and everything in between with Windows Holographic, the platform that powers Microsoft HoloLens. In opening up Windows Holographic to partners, Microsoft shared its vision for mixed reality — a world where devices interact with each other to change the way people work, communicate, learn and play.

Tech4Good, is a new initiative by Microsoft Malaysia designed to provide non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with the technology, knowledge, community and resources they need to fulfil their missions. From now on, Tech4Good will be platform for NGOs to have access to world-class solutions and technology that support their efforts in serving their communities, including youth, women, undocumented children and persons with disabilities.

A rumour is circulating out of China that Microsoft, the current owner of the Nokia phone brand, is intending to close the division inside the company handling the brand and will licence the brand to Foxconn Corporation. Microsoft owns the right to use the Nokia name for smartphones until 2024, according to the deals when they owned the latter in 2014.
