In case you missed it, U Mobile has been chosen as the second 5G network provider by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). It certainly got some reactions from the public and other telcos, particularly Maxis.

Today, Maxis announced new data pool upgrades for its Maxis Postpaid and Hotlink Postpaid plans. The Hotlink Postpaid 45, 60, and 70 plans, as well as the Maxis Postpaid 79 plan, now come with increased data quotas. Meanwhile, the Maxis Postpaid 109, 139, 169, and 199 plans now feature unlimited data.  

Today, Maxis and Huawei have successfully staged the first 5G-Advanced technology trial in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The 5G-Advanced Trial Showcase included a live speed test to demonstrate 5G-Advanced's capabilities to achieve peak speeds of up to 8Gbps.

Today, Maxis announces its new enhanced Maxis Postpaid 5G plans which now offer up to 1000GB in bonus 5G data. A total of five plans together - the Maxis Postpaid 79, 109, 139, 169 and 199 plans now come with bonus 5G data at multiples of each plan’s 4G/5G quota. 

Hotlink Postpaid 30 has been around for some time but it's not the one getting the upgrades. Instead, Maxis is throwing in an extra 10GB of mobile data for both Hotlink Postpaid 60 and Hotlink Postpaid 40. 

While Maxis is not in the loop with Digital Nasional Berhad's 5G network, the company has announced that it has expanded its 5G international roaming services to 29 countries. This marks Maxis as the first telco to provide customers with 5G international roaming services in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and many others. 

Today, Maxis announced that the company will be offering free one million World Cup Qatar 2022 sooka live match passes for all its customers to redeem. In other words, all Maxis Postpaid, Hotlink Postpaid, Hotlink Prepaid and Maxis Home Fibre customers can stream the World Cup for free any of the 64 matches live.
