The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia is on the rise, but there are concerns about EV battery disposal that could pose a threat to the environment and the health of the people. With this, the government is initiating discussions with EV manufacturers to address the anticipated accumulation of nearly 900,000 depleted lithium-ion batteries by 2050.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change has announced that the government is targeting a total of 1.5 million electric vehicles (EVs) in the country by 2040. Its Minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said that the target was increased significantly from what was previously set.

To make electric vehicles (EVs) accessible to the masses, our Malaysian government is planning to only import EVs below RM100,000 only. This is so that EVs are not only for the high-income group but for the middle-income group too.
