Rumours: 8-inch Nokia Lumia 2020 tablet may come in Q1 2014

While the Nokia Lumia 2520 may have started Nokia's tablet range, other Nokia tablets are rumoured to be coming soon, namely an 8-inch tablet going by the name of the Nokia Lumia 2020 or codenamed Illusionist. This 8-inch tablet is expected to arrive in Q1 of 2014 with tech specs that include Windows 8.1 RT and the aforementioned 8-inch screen. No Malaysia pricing or release dates but the Lumia 2020 tablet is expected to target the mid to high-end market. This would mean that it would compete with other 8-inch Windows 8.1 RT based tablets from Acer and Asus placing it around $300 (RM963) or so. Some other sources say that it may go for as low as $200 (RM642) to compete with the 7-inch tablet crowd like the Nexus 7 but we're thinking it would probably match similar Windows based 8-inch tablets. Tech specs for the Nokia Lumia 2020 could include a Snapdragon 800 processor, but we'll confirm everything once we get more information, so stay tuned.

Tech specs and features for the Nokia Lumia 929 remain a 2.2GHZ Snapdragon 800 processor, 5-inch AMOLED display (1920 x 1080), 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 20MP PureView rear camera with dual LED flash, NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Qi wireless charging, 3 HAAC microphones and FM Radio. The Lumia 929 should be heading for Verison and may be available in just white or black. No news on pricing but if it is Verizon bound we're likely not going to get any Malaysia release dates.

  • Nokia Lumia 525 coming to Malaysia soon, already certified in China

Nokia Lumia 525 coming to Malaysia soon, already certified in China

The Nokia Lumia 520 remains one of the most popular smartphones due to it's fairly low price and good tech specs and features. It seems though that it's replacement, the Nokia Lumia 525 is coming soon to Malaysia, having just been certified by TENAA of China. The certification doesn't reveal too much in terms of tech specs or features but it does mention that it will have 1GB of RAM instead of the 512MB currently available in the Lumia 520. The certification goes on further to state that it is a music oriented smartphone, so we could perhaps expect some better audio capabilities such as a better speaker or a Beats like audio filter. According to industry sources the Nokia Lumia 525 should get it's official announcement by the end of December 2013 so we can expect it to have a Malaysia release date sometime around or after next month. The smartphone should be available in black, orange, yellow and white. Unfortunately, there wasn't any pricing details just yet.

  • Nokia Refocus app lets you shoot first and focus later

Nokia Refocus app lets you shoot first and focus later

The Lytro-like refocus ability first offered by the Nokia Lumia 1020 can no be enjoyed by other Lumia owners with the new Nokia Refocus app. Working like a camera app, it takes several photos using different depths of the same image. You can then choose to refocus on any spot in the picture, something which Nokia has made interactive. From our brief hands-on with the app, it works much like a filter, sharpening up the focus point and blurring out the other image depths for a very interesting Lytro camera-like effect. Bear in mind though, that if you take a blurred shot, the Nokia Refocus app won't be able to do much asides from sharpening an already blurry photo. You can easily focus back on everything, returning the photo back to normal as well as do a colour-popup as well. According to Nokia, the app is compatible with the Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928, Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520. The app can be downloaded at the Windows Phone store under the Nokia Collection.

Rumours: Metal body Nokia Lumia 929 spotted

It appears that the 2nd Nokia Lumia with a metal chassis may appear as the Nokia Lumia 929. Spotted recently in a video (which has since been taken down by Youtube), the video shows off a number of very tempting tech specs and features which include a 5-inch 1080p display along with a 20MP PureView camera. The Lumia 929 is expected to replace the Lumia 928 for Verizon, which could make it a Verizon-only model. No news on pricing or Malaysia release dates, but we'll keep you updated as to any new details so stay tuned.

  • Nokia Lumia 1520 shows off Sunlight-ready Assertive Display

Nokia Lumia 1520 shows off Sunlight-ready Assertive Display

Using a touchscreen device outdoor under direct Sunlight often results in a completely blank screen. While you can raise the brightness, it isn't the best of solutions as this will sap battery life very quickly. Nokia's solution for it's Lumia 1520 phablet is to use Assertive Display technology from Apical. This improves visibility under direct sunlight significantly by adjusting the colour and contrast ratio of each pixel based on the surrounding light. This active display tweaking is done quite smoothly, so much so that you'll hardly notice anything going on. Nokia have compared the Lumia 1520 Assertive Display technology with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in the video in this article.

  • Nokia Lumia 1520 and 1320 phablets announced with 6-inch displays

Nokia Lumia 1520 and 1320 phablets announced with 6-inch displays

Despite being leaked and unofficially announced a day early, the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet finally gets officially announced at the recent Nokia World event this time with a surprise little brother in the form of the Nokia Lumia 1320. Breaking ground into phablet territory, the Lumia 1520 offers a 6-inch full HD display while the Nokia Lumia 1320 offers a 6-inch 720p display. Obviously the Lumia 1520 is the more premium device and it offers premium features like built-in Qi wireless charging along with image refocusing through oversampling just like the Lumia 1020. The Lumia 1320 is clearly the Lumia phablet for the masses and as such has lower-end tech specs and features. • More Nokia Lumia 1520 leaks appear, this time with accessories

More Nokia Lumia 1520 leaks appear, this time with accessories

Right before a big official announcement, it is very common for the device being announced to get all manner of rumours or leaks, often revealing everything or missing the mark entirely. Well, after the recent Nokia Lumia 1520 tech spec and price leak, this time around we're seeing some new image leaks of the phablet along with some accessories that could be coming with it. These accessories include the Nokia Treasure Tag, which is a small keychain-like device that rings when you set it to on the Lumia 1520 app, helping you find your keys (if only they had one small enough for glasses). The Treasure Tag works through Bluetooth and looks to be in a matching Lumia yellow, but there are probably other colours as well.

A number of protective covers for the Lumia 1520 also made an appearance in black, red and white. While it isn't exactly related to the Lumia 1520, there is also a music player going by the name of Nokia Guru, this time in cyan. The device itself looks very small, about the size of most teeny tiny MP3 players and looks to attach to a computer via microUSB. It also has a volume rocker and matching coloured in-ear headphones. Again, we think the Nokia Guru will probably come in all the other Lumia colours as well, but we'll find out for sure soon as the Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi is set to happen in the next couple of hours. No pricing details or Malaysia release dates yet but we're expecting the Nokia Lumia 1520, Nokia Treasure Tag and Nokia Guru to come our way in November 2013.
