  • OnePlus OxygenOS officially released

    OnePlus OxygenOS officially released

After some delay, OnePlus have officially released their OnePlus OxygenOS Android interface. Designed to be light and essential, the OxygenOS is based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Features include built-in gestures, a full fledged file manager while retaining the same stock feel of the original Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. However, OnePlus One smartphone users will not be forced to download and use the new OxygenOS and can still keep on using the existing Cyanogen ROM. Check out the video for yourself in this article.

OnePlus announces Oxygen OS, official unveiling on 12 February 2015

Last Thursday, OnePlus posted a teaser on its official page showing off the periodic table and asking its fans to guess what the company had in store for them on 30 January 2015. Some said that the teaser was for a metal swappable back cover, but the company revealed yesterday that it would release a new operating system based on the Android platform called OxygenOS. This move by the company isn't surprising given that a few weeks back, OnePlus's official international ROM partner, Cyanogenmod signed an exclusive deal with an Indian manufacturer called Micromax. This meant that OnePlus can no longer use Cyanogenmod on its phones sold in India. So, it was only a matter of time before it released its own OS. The company in it's official blog post said that it aims to provide a bold, straightforward experience to it's users with the new OxygenOS. It further promises that the OS will be open source, customizable and free of unnecessary bloatware. Finally, the new ROM will be close to stock Android and will come as an optional installation for OnePlus One. OnePlus has promised more details about the OS on 12 February when the company will officially unveil it.

You can now buy a OnePlus One without an invite till 25 December 2014

One of the biggest drawbacks of the flagship killer, the OnePlus One was that the phone was not readily available. Anyone who wished to purchase the device had to have an invite code. But as a part of the holiday season promotion, OnePlus is offering its 'One' flagship killer smartphone without any invites. This promotion is only for a limited period; from now till 25 December 2014 and will last until stocks run out. Even though the phone retails for a very affordable price tag, it features a solid design. As for the tech specs, the OnePlus One comes with a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB / 64GB storage, a 5.5-inch display with full HD resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front shooter. The One features a 3100 mAh capacity battery and runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with CyanogenMod 11S UI. The unlocked 16GB storage variant of the OnePlus One is available for $299 (RM1045), while the 64GB variant is available for $350 (RM1224). The company does mention that stocks are limited, so the phone may run out of stock before 25 December 2014.

OnePlus Malaysia recently held a fan gathering to tell their fans about their plans. On hand to share the news was Chun Pin Lim, Head of Southeast Asia Business Development, OnePlus Global. According to him OnePlus are on the move and will spread out to other countries soon. OnePlus One users will also get the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update within the next 90 days or so. According to him, the OnePlus One will be coming to Malaysia in December 2014 with the same $299 pricing, just converted to Malaysian Ringgit (about RM1000).

OnePlus Malaysia is here, fan gathering on 8 November 2014

Well, rumours already indicated that OnePlus was coming to Malaysia and it appears that they have arrived, setting up a Facebook page and their first fan gathering. Set for 8 November 2014, the fan gathering will be held at 4pm at Coffee Bean SS15 Subang Jaya. Unfortunately, all the seats and tickets have been taken. Fans of the OnePlus One smartphone should not despair though, as it just means that we'll be seeing the One smartphone more often here in Malaysia, without having to go to third-party sellers. The 'flagship killer' One smartphone offers tech specs that include a magnesium alloy chassis, 5.5-inch screen with full HD resolution, 3GB RAM and more all priced at $299 (RM976). • Job posting reveals OnePlus coming to Malaysia

Job posting reveals OnePlus coming to Malaysia

The OnePlus One smartphone was originally titled as the affordable flagship killer offering the latest tech specs at just $299 (RM978). However, getting it here in Malaysia would involve getting it from a third-party seller who usually price it above RM1K or so (there are import costs after all). However, that could all change as a job vacancy posting has revealed that they may be coming to Malaysia soon. The job vacancy posting located on their main site reveals that they are looking for a General Manager in Malaysia. Apart from tech specs that include a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 4G LTE Cat4 and a 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, the OnePlus One is also one of the few smartphones to have optional wood back covers, so we're quite interested in them as well. No Malaysia release dates or pricing yet, but it should be as soon as a proper GM can be chosen, which could be the next couple of months or so. If you think you're the one for the job, then by all means, the sooner the better.

  • OnePlus doesn't want you to smash your smartphone anymore

OnePlus doesn't want you to smash your smartphone anymore

Reporting previously on the OnePlus One smartphone, we mentioned that the company was offering the smartphone for just $1 (RM3.26) for those willing to smash their smartphones. While there were quite a few submissions for the OnePlus One "Smash the Past" contest, many of these people didn't read the fine print in that from those who submitted their names, only 100 contestants would be picked and only then they'd be required to upload said videos. Suffice to say, there have been quite a few uploaded videos of smashed smartphones. Considering the injuries that you can get from doing so (flying glass, exploding battery, etc.) OnePlus have since changed their contest where contestants who have been picked will have to donate their smartphones to Medic Mobile which sends these phones to mobile healthcare workers in rural areas. Of the 140000 entries, 100 winners will be contacted to donate their phones so do keep your phone well and safe before that happens.
