A total of RM2.5 million in losses was recorded in 2023 linked to fraud cases on social applications. The number covers as many as 494 cases involving cases of impersonation as a contact through social applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook. So, what should you know about it?

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Whoscall are collaborating to bolster Malaysia's defenses against scams. At the 'Scam Free Malaysia Carnival', they recently announced the giveaway of 1 million Whoscall Premium accounts, worth over RM87 million for free, to help protect Malaysians.

Previously, we mentioned how the MCMC has blocked over 2.6 million scam calls. Today, the CEO of Gogolook, Manwoo Joo announced the pick-up rate for scam calls has fallen by 10%. This success can be credited to Whoscall collaboration with PDRM.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) revealed that it has blocked a total of 6,381 gambling sites from 2020 until the end of 2022. The sites were blocked at the request of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

All summonses from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Road Transport Department (JPJ) are set to be integrated into one database system beginning this year. According to the Transport Ministry’s Secretary-General Datuk Isham Ishak, the initiative would allow for the summons system issued by both agencies to be more effective in terms of enforcement.

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has revealed that almost RM600 million in losses were recorded in 2022 due to scams and other cyber crimes in Malaysia. Hence, the ministry will focus on educating the public to be more digitally literate and not become victims.

Scam calls are getting out of hand these days. This collaboration involves fraud number database sharing from the PDRM CCID portal to Whoscall's data system as an updated and reliable caller ID application for Malaysians.
