In case you missed the news over the weekend, Malaysia is set to introduce stricter online safety measures beginning 1 June, requiring social media users to verify their age using official government-issued documents. The move comes under new regulations introduced through the Online Safety Act 2025 by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

We have talked about this new feature before. In mid-2026, the Malaysian government confirmed it would introduce redesigned passports and identity cards with enhanced security features. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the new Malaysian passport and MyKad will be rolled out by the second or early third quarter of the year to improve their integrity and reliability.

Recently, the Immigration Department announced that it will be offering free passport replacements for passports that are damaged or lost due to the ongoing flood incident. So, what should you know about it?
