When the ROG Ally first debuted two years ago, it was a promising PC gaming handheld console. The idea of playing PC games anywhere and anytime is great, but it was met with two major flaws: The battery life and an unoptimised Windows 11 user interface for handheld (also not forgetting the microSD card issue). Over time, ASUS ROG improved the battery life with the Ally X, but the UI is still very Windows-ish.

Finally, after four months, ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) Malaysia has officially opened pre-orders for its brand-new ROG Xbox Ally series gaming handhelds. The lineup includes the ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X, developed in collaboration with Xbox to merge the best of PC and console gaming into a single device.

The long-anticipated ROG Xbox Ally and its beefed-up sibling, the ROG Xbox Ally X, are now available for preorder — and their price tags make it clear these are premium handhelds, not casual throwaways. At least, that's for the foreign markets, and we don't know what are the local prices. But we can expect it to be similar.

Finally, the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X have a launch date. Unveiled publicly at gamescom 2025, the duo will officially launch on 16 October 2025. As a global launch, the ROG Xbox Ally series will be available across over 35 markets, including Malaysia, Japan, the US, the UK, Australia, and much of Europe.

The upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming device may be priced around RM4400, based on a leaked European listing. Its standard counterpart, the ROG Xbox Ally, is expected to launch at a lower price of around RM2950.

Back in early June, the ROG Xbox Ally X series was unveiled, but no price was announced yet. But according to a recent leak, the upcoming PC handheld gaming device could launch for $799.99 (~RM3.4K). For context, that's $100 more than the launch price of the original ROG Ally.

Yesterday, Microsoft Xbox and chipmaker AMD formalised a strategic, multi?year collaboration to develop custom processors for upcoming Xbox consoles. This move signals a deeper co-engineering relationship that could bring major optimisations in both performance and efficiency.
