Today's latest smartphones can now record 4K video and this includes the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Wanting to see just how far today's smartphone cameras have gone, photographer Alec Weinstein paired up the Galaxy Note 3's 13MP camera against a Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR with a SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. Bear in mind that the EOS 5D Mark III has been tweaked somewhat to get similar colour, contrast, saturation and sharpening, but the results are still decidedly better for the Galaxy Note 3. Granted, the Galaxy Note 3 is recording in 4K video but the resulting video has been downsized to 1080p and that the EOS 5D Mark III is definitely an excellent camera. Check out the video for yourself below and marvel with us at how far cameraphones have got:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 officially gets 6 colours

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 officially gets 6 colours

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet now has 6 official colour options to choose from. While we initially reported on the Rose Gold colour option, Samsung have come out with a White Rose Gold option and a Black Rose Gold colour option in addition to the new Red colour option. Add on the existing Black, Pink and White colour options and you have a total of 6 colours to choose from for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Tech specs and features for the phablet remain the same though. Unfortunately, Malaysian users may have to wait a while as these colour options may only be released in China starting from December 2013. Malaysian release dates are expected to be in early 2014.

It seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may soon get some new colour options. This time around they are appearing first at Samsung Argentina where the new colours were revealed as red and rose gold. The red colour option will be available within the first week of January 2014 while the rose gold colour option will be available in Argentina in week 3 of January 2014. Samsung will then make both colour options available globally and we should then see these options available in Malaysia sometime in or after week 4 of January 2014. Malaysia pricing should be more or less the same. Check out the pics in this article for yourself.

While the previous Samsung Galaxy Note 3 video ad didn't really help sell the phablet with it's rather weird puppetry, Samsung have come out with another promotional video that shows off the features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 along with some mention of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, this time through a stop-motion pop-up book. We think that it is quite creative and helps highlight features like Air Command, the new S Pen, and all of the Air Command functions such as Scrapbook and S Finder. As the latest and greatest phablet in the Samsung Galaxy Note series, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 offers a better Snapdragon 800 processor, GPU, larger screen and slightly bigger 3200 mAh battery. • Exynos Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Snapdragon Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Exynos Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Snapdragon Samsung Galaxy Note 3

While Malaysia only has the one Snapdragon 800 powered Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet, Samsung actually came out with two versions. One was powered by the 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and processor while the other is running the 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Octa. Both managed to breach the 34000 limit on AnTuTu. Surprisingly, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 powered N9005 beat out the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa powered N9000, this was mainly due to the better graphics performance of the Adreno 330 GPU compared to the Mali GPU. In terms of multi-tasking and other processing tests, the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa did surprisingly better. Check out the video in the article for more information.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Review - A better Note in every way

As the phablet series that started it all, the Samsung Galaxy Note series of smartphones is probably best known for it's ability to take notes and provide a bigger screen. However, there are now many smartphones or phablets with much bigger screens than the Samsung Galaxy Note, so why should you get the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 apart from all these other phablets? Well, asides from the fact that sometimes, size isn't everything, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 offers a renewed focus on note taking, multi-tasking and performance in a sweeter 5.7-inch display package. Is it enough for you? Read our review on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and find out.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Apps headed in right direction

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Apps headed in right direction

Samsung have been known to offer practically every "S" app available with each new device they release. The new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is no exception, but while it still has all the previous bloatware (granted, some are definitely useful) the new software or apps designed especially for the Note 3 seem to offer a new focus on usefulness. The main feature we're talking about here is the Air Command function which is basically a circular ring shortcut menu which pops up each time you click the button on the new S Pen stylus and touch the screen with it. This gives you access to some pretty useful options which include:

    • Action Memo - Continuing on from S Memo, you can write down text or a number and rather than just save it as an image, call the number directly from the app.
    • Scrapbook - Much like Google Keep or Pocket, this app lets you store content for later reading, arranging and organizing it for an easier read later.
    • Screen Write - a more powerful screen capture which lets you scribble or add comments on to the screen capture, making it perfect for commenting.
    • S Finder - search everything in your Note 3 according to specific categories which could include hand-written notes or even symbols and formulas.
    • Pen Window - outline a window with the S Pen and launch a bunch of commonly used apps into that window, where the app will match those measurements exactly and float or hover over your existing screen.
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Benchmarked!

    Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Benchmarked!

Currently one of the most powerful phablets to be introduced recently, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 offers up what could be easily considered the best tech specs for any smartphone around. This includes a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and chipset along with 3GB of RAM. Benchmarks of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 have recently surfaced and show the phablet topping nearly every benchmark except for AnTuTu where it got a close 2nd place behind the LG G2. However, in all other benchmarks, the Note 3 leads with a considerable gap. Check out the benchmarks for yourself in this article.
