News & Reviews:   Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge remains the only smartphone in the world with a bended touchscreen on the side. Initially released with limited units for only certain countries, it seems that the Galaxy Note Edge could soon make it's way to Malaysia. This is because it was recently spotted in the SIRIM database under it's code number of SM-N915F. Other notable tech specs and features for the Galaxy Note Edge include a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM and a 16MP ISOCELL rear camera along with S Pen stylus support. No news yet on specific Malaysia release dates or pricing but we expect the price to be higher than the RM2499 priced Samsung Galaxy Note 4 due to the Galaxy Note Edge's limited units. Stay tuned for more developments as it could be coming with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A7 which has also appeared on the SIRIM database.

It seems Samsung and LG aren't the only ones to have flexible touchscreen technology as Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL) recently showed off an 8.7-inch Super AMOLED display that can be folded into three parts. Featuring a full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, the touchscreen can be bent up to a 2mm to 4mm radius and is durable up to 100000 times of being bent. SEL also showed off a smaller 5.9-inch flexible display but this one only offered 720p HD resolutions and is not a touchscreen. The company have not revealed when this flexible technology could come to tablets or smartphones of the future but it does seem to indicate that flexible display devices could be coming in 2015.

The Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have already arrived in the US and other select markets. While there are no Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet, many are expecting the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to reach us in November 2014, so we still have time to decide which Apple iPhone to get. Ever since Samsung came out with their YOUM flexible displays, everyone has been wondering when we'd be able to see a Samsung smartphone featuring a bended or flexible display. In a surprise move, Samsung officially announced the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the world's first smartphone with a bended display. Exactly as it's name suggests, one side of the display is bent at an angle and is a fully functional Super AMOLED touchscreen. Apart from that, other tech specs and features are more or less the same as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, right down to the S Pen and better looking artificial leather backside. The single edge touchscreen on the side does make it feel a bit lopsided and it also raises the question of whether it is made for left-handed or right handed people, but overall the design is very premium looking.
