  • Maxis offers Samsung Galaxy S5 on pre-order from RM1399

Maxis offers Samsung Galaxy S5 on pre-order from RM1399

With the Samsung Galaxy S5 well and launched here in Malaysia, Maxis is one of the first of the major telcos to come out with pre-order bundles for the smartphone. You can now get the Galaxy S5 from RM1399 (retail pricing is at RM2399) once you sign up for a TalkMore or SurfMore postpaid plan. Maxis are offering both 12 months and 24 months contracts which should be great for those who don't like to be tied to a contract for too long. However, there is one downside, the preorder is only for those subscribing to get a new number. Existing Maxis customers will have to wait a while longer with the next pre-order expected on 3 April 2014 (which isn't all that long actually). Check out the details of the bundle deals in the table and links in this article.

Samsung Malaysia launches Galaxy S5, Gear 2 and Gear Fit with Galaxy S5 preorder at RM2399

After being told we wouldn't have to wait that long, Samsung Malaysia has announced the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone here in the country. As typical of a Samsung flagship smartphone, it also comes with companion devices like the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch and Samsung Gear Fit smartband. While it probably doesn't need mentioning anymore, the tech specs for the Samsung Galaxy S5 include:

    • 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor
    • 2GB RAM
    • 16GB / 32GB storage + microSD (64GB)

Samsung Galaxy S5 also has baby monitor feature built-in

On top of some impressive tech specs and new hardware features the Samsung Galaxy S5 apparently has a baby monitor feature built-in. Unlike a typical 'S' app the feature can be found under the Hearing sub-menu. If your child cries the Galaxy S5 will vibrate, which seems rather redundant at first. However, the function is supposed to be used in tandem with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch which makes more sense for those parents who sleep in separate bedrooms from their children or who tend to sleep through the loudest of noises regardless.

  • Samsung Galaxy S5 goes for a 1 meter dive

Samsung Galaxy S5 goes for a 1 meter dive

While it wasn't the first water-proof smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5 does carry one of the higher water-resistant certifications around. Featuring an IP67 certification this is higher than some Sony Xperia smartphones, which originally started the trend, however, the official certification states that it can survive for up to 30 minutes under water at a depth of 1 meter. Wanting to test this out, Mobile-Review have dunked the Samsung Galaxy S5 in a 1 meter deep aquarium for a little bit more than 10 minutes. During that time the smartphone not only maintained a connection with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch it was paired with, it also received calls with no visible problems. Coming out of the water it also seemed just fine, proving that yes, you can bring the Samsung Galaxy S5 to the pool next time. Like other water-resistant smartphones, the key here is to make sure that all the seals have been placed tightly and neatly as you can still brick a water-proof smartphone if you don't seal it properly. Celcom's Samsung Galaxy S5 registration of interest page is up

Looking to get the Samsung Galaxy S5 under a Celcom plan? Then perhaps you should head on over to the Celcom site as they have put up a Registration of Interest page. While the usual details of Name and contacts are there, the page only lists two colours to be available for the Galaxy S5, which includes Black and White and will be limited to the 16GB storage version. Perhaps Celcom have something else planned for the Electric Blue and Copper Gold versions? In any case, those who have registered are invited to a preview event from 20 March 2014 to 24 March 2014. According to Samsung Malaysia, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be announced in Malaysia on 27 March 2014.

  • Samsung Malaysia to launch the Samsung Galaxy S5 on 27 March 2014

Samsung Malaysia to launch the Samsung Galaxy S5 on 27 March 2014

Samsung Malaysia has recently indicated that their latest Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone is coming to Malaysia as soon as 27 March 2014. This follows the teasers done by all the major telcos in Malaysia like DiGi, Celcom and Maxis and it is also ahead of the 11 April 2014 international roll-out date. While there aren't any other details, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to be launched simultaneously by all three major telcos either on the same date or a day or so afterwards. We're expecting a rather big launch for each telco with big deals for the first-comers and early birds so keep 27 March 2014 and the days after open on your calendar. While there isn't any official pricing just yet, some local sites are estimating that it could go for RM2399.

Maxis also teases Samsung Galaxy S5, still waiting

Rounding off the telco tease for the Samsung Galaxy S5 is Maxis who just put up a teaser page. Like Celcom, it isn't a Registration of Interest page. Nor does it give away any other details. With this sort of build-up we're expecting all three telcos to come out with the Samsung Galaxy S5 with a bang on 11 April 2014, so keep that date open. No Malaysia release dates or pricing yet though, so stay tuned for more updates.

In what is becoming a common occurance for flagship smartphones in Malaysia, Celcom has also released a teaser image for the Samsung Galaxy S5. While it doesn't show any tech specs or offer an Registration of Interest (ROI) page like DiGi it does confirm that we'll see the smartphone coming from Celcom soon. No news as to specific Malaysia release dates or pricing but we hope it will be with all four colours of Charcoal Black, Copper Gold, Electric Blue and Shimmery White included.

Samsung explains it's new ISOCELL camera on Samsung Galaxy S5

The new Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone utilizes Samsung's own ISOCELL technology for the camera sensor. Looking to explain why the smaller sized ISOCELL camera sensor is such an improvement, Samsung have released a video explaining how it works and what benefits it offers. This includes better performance, less noise and richer picture quality in low light conditions. Check out the video for yourself in this article.
