While the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5 saw a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, an infographic showing the evolution of the Samsung Galaxy S series confirms earlier rumours that a Samsung Exynos powered version is also coming too. Details of this version are scant but we do know that the Samsung Exynos processor will be an octa-core (having eight cores) and be clocked at 2.1GHz. Other tech specs like the 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, 16MP rear camera and 2800 mAh battery remain the same however. No news yet on when we might see this version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 but hopefully it won't omit features such as 4K video recording that have previously been available for the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and chipsets.

According to recent rumours, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch could be getting a refresh at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2014 set to happen at the end of the month. What is really interesting is that instead of the Android operating system it is using, the new refresh could be using Samsung's Tizen operating system. Both Android and Tizen are designed to be scaled down to devices with limited hardware but Tizen seems to be something Samsung could be more familiar with. No news if the refresh could also mean a pricing refresh as well but many are expecting the Samsung smartwatch to make it's appearance at the Unpacked event coming up soon as it would make a good companion device to the Samsung Galaxy S5.

As the date for the Samsung Galaxy S5 unveiling approaches more leaks appear, this time some of them coming from Samsung itself. The first set of tech specs covers the rear or main camera of the Galaxy S5, which has been confirmed to be a 16MP sensor both from the Exif data of a leaked photo taken using the camera along with a report from Samsung about their new LED flash. Apparently, Samsung are working on a new reflector-integrated LED flash for their cameraphones which will deliver better light coverage of over 165 lux at 1A. They went on further to say that it would be used for their newest smartphones which includes the Galaxy S5. Another set of semi-confirmed tech specs comes from Bloomberg who say the screen on the Galaxy S5 will be much sharper, hinting at a possible 2K display of 1440 x 2560 pixels on a 5.2-inch screen. While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to unveiled at an Unpacked event before the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we expect the smartphone to be available by or after next month. No exact Malaysia release dates or pricing but we'll keep you posted.

We've been through the Samsung Galaxy S5 rumour mill for some time now, and the rumour about a possible fingerprint scanner has been both certified and debunked quite a lot of times. This time around the rumour is that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a fingerprint scanner but rather than have it embedded in the screen, it will be embedded in the home button. Considering how rectangular the home button is for most Samsung Galaxy smartphones this seems a bit off, but according to the source, who happens to be SamMobile, the fingerprint scanner will be the swipe kind. While SamMobile are usually quite accurate about such things do take this with a pinch of salt. According to the rumour, Samsung will integrate usage of the scanner into unlocking the smartphone or accessing private folders and media along with verifying your account while getting rid of onscreen buttons. With no other news except that we'll find out about whether this is true soon enough at the next Unpacked event.

There have been quite a lot of concept renders already for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 but a new one has come up nonetheless. This render comes from Sonny Dickson who isn't a designer but is more well-known for being a serial leaker of smartphones. He recently posted this render with the message that it was a design reference for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The design looks nothing like the previous Samsung smartphone patent, but then it also looks very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S4. While he didn't mention any tech specs or features, the design does offer measurements with the "design reference" measuring 141.7mm x 72.5mm x 8.2mm, making it larger and thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S4, which could be to make way for a bigger screen and battery. With the Samsung Galaxy S5 set to be unveiled in just another week or so, we won't have to wait long to find out how it will really look.

While there are even quad-SIM smartphones out on the market, few better-known brand names offer anything past dual-SIM. However, Samsung have recently come out with a triple-SIM smartphone called the Samsung Galaxy Star Trios. Going for the low-end to entry-level smartphone market, the Galaxy Star Trios has very similar in terms of tech specs with the Samsung Galaxy Star S5280 with features that include a 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB storage, 3.14-inch display with 240 x 320 pixel resolution, 2MP rear camera, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and HSDPA support along with a 1300 mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy Star Trios should be available in Malaysia soon but is currently being sold in Brazil for $165 (RM549) which is quite high for these tech specs. However, if you are the type who absolutely needs three SIM cards, this shouldn't be an issue.
