The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch offers the most amount of features around but one of the main reasons it didn't really take off in Malaysia was it's RM999 price tag. Recently Samsung cut down the price of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch in India down to $120 (RM397), with the original initial pricing set at an even higher $365 (RM1208). Samsung has not given any official announcement on a global cut-down in pricing for markets like Malaysia yet but since India got it, China, Malaysia and other Asian markets will probably follow soon after. The price cut is also indicative of what could be coming as well, as many are expecting the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch or S Band bracelet to be revealed in 2014. No specific Malaysia release dates just yet, but we're expecting it to come in or after the end of February 2014.

While Samsung's Unpacked invite all but announced the coming of the Samsung Galaxy S5, it still didn't offer much in terms of tech specs or features. Rumours have cropped up from Eldar Murtazin who says he knows the exact details. According to him, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a 5.24-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution (2K display) which would give it a world's first record with 560ppi pixel density. Other features include a 3200 mAh battery, 32GB / 64GB storage, a 16MP rear camera, 3.2MP front camera and two versions with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or Samsung Exynos 6 processor and chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to arrive with a companion S Band bracelet and not a Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch. Last but not least, do take this rumour with a healthy dose of salt, as Eldar Murtazin has been wrong about the Galaxy S5 before.

Samsung recently announced Black Editions for their Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini smartphones. While both smartphones have come in black before, the Black Edition version adds on a black artificial leather backside instead of the usual plastic casing for both smartphones. Tech specs for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition match up with that of the Samsung Galaxy S4 4G LTE or i9505 which includes a 1.9gHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor. The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini Black Edition uses the same 1.7GHz dual-core processor and is priced at RUB16000 (RM1500). The Galaxy S4 Black Edition is going for RUB23000 (RM2100). Both smartphones will be introduced in Russia first with a roll-out to other markets like Malaysia happening afterwards.

Samsung has finally announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo and an LTE version called the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo LTE+. Offering the same artificial leather backside and outer look and feel as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Note 3 Neo smartphones are designed for the more affordable and as such also cuts down on certain tech specs. The most notable is the fact that both versions are now using hexa-core processors based on a Samsung Exynos chipset. This chipset follows the big.LITTLE ARM architecture with a dual-core 1.7GHz A15 processor for the main processing and a 1.3GHZ quad-core A7 set for when the smartphone is running on lower power. The non-LTE version will offer a slightly higher-clocked set of quad-core processors going at 1.6GHz. Other tech specs and features include- 5.5-inch AMOLED display at 720 x 1280 pixel resolution
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage + microSD
- Samsung S Pen stylus support
- WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4 LE, NFC, IR blaster
- 8MP rear camera
- 3100 mAh battery

A listing for a Samsung device going by the model number of SM-T330 was recently found through Bluetooth SIG certification. It also revealed some rather telling tech specs including an 8-inch display, probably an AMOLED screen of some sort. Rumours are that this could be the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, which sort of fits considering that there are no other 8-inch Samsung tablets and that it is 2014, the year when Samsung is said to come out with many more tablets. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any other details such as Malaysia release dates or pricing but we expect it to make an official appearance at the MWC expo in February. Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted as to any new developments.

Samsung presenters recently revealed that they have already made a Super AMOLED screen with (2K) 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and 560ppi pixel density, making the screen about 5.2 to 5.3 inches large. While this is quite some news already, they went on to hint that higher resolution displays for smartphone could be coming soon with 4K display smartphones expected soon. A 4K display smartphone would have up to a 2160 x 3480 pixel resolution which should result in a massive 860ppi pixel density if the screen is around the same 5-inch size. These Samsung screens will likely include diamond pixels like PenTile but any sign of it shouldn't be visible on these insane pixel resolutions. No news on how else Samsung will achieve this as such 4K displays would also need suitable processors and graphics to support it, which we haven't seen or heard of yet. No news when exactly we'll be able to see some of these 4K display Samsung smartphones here in Malaysia but we're expecting early 2015 or late 2014.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is rumoured to be on pre-order soon for Belgium. This has resulted in a number of better looking pictures along with pricing. Unfortunately, the Note 3 Neo isn't as affordable as we thought it would be at €599 (RM2731). The pics show that the overall design is more or less the same, right down to the artificial leather backside. Tech specs still haven't been confirmed but most estimates have them include an 8MP camera, 5.55-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, LTE and microSD support, Android 4.3 and a 3100 mAh battery. It should get it's officialy launch in March 2014 with the official announcement expected in February at the MWC expo. If it is already on pre-order in Belgium, we should see it get to Malaysia soon.

While the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch probably offers the most in terms of functionality for any smartwatch currently on the market one of it's main limitations was that it only works with certain Samsung smartphones. This short compatibility list included the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Note 2, S4 and S3 with Android 4.3 firmware. However, this is no longer the case as Smart Watch Fans have come up with a guide showing how to make the Galaxy Gear smartwatch work with a Nexus 5 smartphone. It may require you to download some files, extract them and rename them, but there isn't any arduous programming or too-technical stuff to do to make it work. Do bear in mind that most of the apps work, except for S-Voice and Weather. Other smartwatch fans are saying that they have also made the Galaxy Gear work with the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, provided that it is the pure vanilla Google Edition version.

New rumours about when the Samsung Galaxy S5 could be revealed have surfaced, this time around from Eldar Murtazin from Mobile Review. According to a recent tweet, he says we could see the smartphone come on 23 February at 6pm in Barcelona with a launch expected at end of April. According to the tweet, tech specs will be the same as previously rumoured which includes a 5.2-inch 2K display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset or the latest Samsung Exynos, 3GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera, fingerprint sensor and 3000 mAh battery. He also says that a new TouchWiz interface will also come with the smartphone. While Eldar Murtazin has been wrong before (the death of Tizen, etc), he was fairly accurate about the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch date previously. As always do take this rumour with a pinch of salt, because they are still rumours or at least until Samsung start sending out the Unpacked event invites.
