After a series of delays, it looks like Sarawak’s state-owned boutique airline is nearing takeoff as the Sarawak State Government will finalise its takeover of MASwings on 12 February. A sale and purchase agreement would be signed on that day between the Sarawak Government and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) for the acquisition of the latter’s subsidiary.

Over the past two years or so, Sarawak has initiated plans to launch its own state-owned airline. Now, it looks like the airline, which is yet to be named, is set to take off soon, with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari optimistic that it’ll start operation before 2025.

In October last year, we shared how the Sarawak State Government, through Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to acquire MASWings Sdn Bhd for the proposed Sarawak-owned boutique airline. Now, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg has given an update on the proposal, revealing that the airline is expected to take off in 2025.
