  • Sony Underwater Apps lets you play with some Xperias in the wet

Sony Underwater Apps lets you play with some Xperias in the wet

Sony started the whole water-proof smartphone trend with their Xperia Z smartphone, but truth be told, you can't really do much except take videos and pictures underwater. Well, now you can do something else as Sony release their new Underwater Apps for the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 smartphones, and even then, they must be from the US region. Most of the apps don't do much except to showcase your waterproof smartphone but the Goldie, Photo Lab, Plantimal, Sink Sunk, Rainy-oke and Tiny Umbrella do let you show it off a bit more. The only functional app to us would be the Sink Sunk app for those of you who'd like to play a game while scuba diving. As it is, Sony has opened it up to developers so we might see some useful underwater apps in the near future. No news when non-US Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 smartphones may get access but we'll let you know as soon as we find out.

  • Sony Malaysia announce Sony Xperia Z1, available in October 2013

Sony Malaysia announce Sony Xperia Z1, available in October 2013

Just revealed at the IFA 2013 and already the Sony Xperia Z1 has been officially launched in Malaysia. The smartphone formerly known as the Honami sticks in a 20.7MP 1/2.3-inch Exmore RS digital compact camera sensor along with a 5-inch Full HD Triluminos display smartphone, Sony G Lens, a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM into the now familiar Omni-balance designed form factor. The Xperia Z1 looks and feels like other premium Xperia Z smartphones as it maintains the same aluminum unibody chassis sandwiched by two slabs of tempered glass. While the Z1 is IP58 water proof certified it also packs in a dedicated camera button, so you can bring it underwater with you and take advantage of the powerful camera. Sony Mobile Malaysia say that the Sony Xperia Z1 should be available in the first week of October 2013, while a whole bunch of accessories will come later in mid-October.

  • Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) officially announced, 20MP waterproof cameraphone

Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) officially announced, 20MP waterproof cameraphone

After months of leaks and rumours, the Sony Xperia Z1 or previously known as Honami finally gets officially announced. Combining the best of Sony according to the One Sony initiative it puts in an awesome 20.7MP, F2.0 aperture 27mm wide-angle G Lens equipped camera sensor into a thin yet stylish glass covered smartphone. The smartphone itself is IP58 waterproof and features the now familiar OmniBalance design. The main focus of the Z1 remains the camera though as it packs in 3x clear zoom, a BIONZ image processor, super fast shutter to capture time and a dedicated camera shutter button. Other tech specs are equally impressive as it offers a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage, up to 64GB microSD, Android 4.2 and a 3000 mAh battery. According to Sony, the cameraphone has up to 14 hours talk time and also utilizes pixel-binning like the Lumia 1020. This pixel-binning seems to offer more sharpness and clarity rather than Lytro-like after zoom effects.

  • Rumours: Sony Honami to be called Sony Xperia Z1, press shots appear?

Rumours: Sony Honami to be called Sony Xperia Z1, press shots appear?

A number of rumours surrounding Sony's upcoming cameraphone, the Sony i1 Honami have surfaced and these include the fact that it may be called the Sony Xperia Z1 instead. Some rather low-resolution renders have appeared showing off the cameraphone in Black, Purple and White along with sample photos which confirm the 20.7MP camera sensor inside. Other rumours indicate that the phone's camera can also record 4K video and will come with Xenon and LED dual flash. Still no news about price or availability for Malaysia and as with all rumours do take these with a pinch of salt as it could very well be another unknown cameraphone waiting to be revealed.

  • Rumours: Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) benchmarked

Rumours: Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) benchmarked

Sony's upcoming cameraphone, the Sony i1 Honami supposedly got benchmarked with these scores appearing on AnTuTu with an impressive score of 30625. The benchmark seems to confirm at least two things about the cameraphone and this includes the fact that it may be called the Sony Xperia Z1 instead. It also confirms that the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor as you generally get these types of scores with this processor. Still no news about price or availability for Malaysia and as with all rumours do take these with a pinch of salt as AnTuTu benchmarks have been known to be false before.
