Just yesterday, we reported that some local telcos including U Mobile, Celcom and Maxis were fined by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for having fake prepaid SIM card registration. In responding to the matter, Celcom has reached out to us with an official statement below.

Today, we saw an interesting tweet from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) about fake prepaid SIM card registration. Apparently, these fake prepaid SIM cards came from U Mobile, Celcom, Tune Talk, Maxis, YTL Communications and Tone Plus without verifying user information. 

Just earlier this month, Opensignal named U Mobile as one of the most improved global networks in the Mobile Network Experience Global Awards (which most of you still can't believe, lol). With that, we wondered if the orange telco has shifted their position or not if compared with the other local telcos. Well, wonder no more - we now have the Malaysia Mobile Network Experience Report by Opensignal as of September 2020.

Just last week, Opensignal acknowledged and mentioned U Mobile as one of the most improved global networks in the Mobile Network Experience Global Awards (which most of you still can't believe, lol). But anyway, in conjunction with this, the orange telco just launched their biggest giveaway campaign "We Want U GIVEAWAY" to every U Mobile user starting now.

Just recently, Opensignal has just celebrated their 10th Year Anniversary and released a Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2020 report online. As of September 2020, they took account of every telco company around the world by announcing almost every category from global winners to rising stars and many more.

In a collaboration between Waze, U Mobile and SMART tunnel, it is now possible to use navigation apps such as Waze and Google Maps while driving inside the SMART Tunnel. This is thanks to a bunch of Waze Beacon which utilizes Bluetooth technology in order to transmit GPS and traffic data, instead of relying solely on mobile data.

During the Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Best Practices Awards 2020, U Mobile won the award for the Malaysia Mobile Service Provider of the Year. This is the company’s third time in a row to win the award.

Starting 1 April 2020, Malaysian telcos began to provide users with 1GB of data daily. Although that free data could be used for anything at the time, it only applied from 8 AM to 6 PM each day. Now, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced that the free 1GB will apply for the entire day.

Today, U Mobile just suddenly announced a new Unlimited HERO P139 plan feature for their customers. According to their website, the new postpaid feature now allows customers to register up to three (3) Share 20 postpaid lines to share P139's 50GB hotspot data at just RM1 per month and per line!

With an end to the COVID-19 pandemic nowhere in sight, our country has to make an effort to bring things back to normal to ensure our economy doesn't deteriorate. Many companies are finding ways to help and for telcos, it's mostly free internet. to find new ways to contribute. To that end, telco operators based in Malaysia will continue to provide certain industries with free internet.
