In preparation for the Next Gen 5G network, U Mobile has signed a Term Sheet agreement to appoint Celcom Timur Sabah (CT Sabah) to deploy 5G leased circuits in the Sabah and WP Labuan. CT Sabah is a leading provider of high-speed fibre optic infrastructure in the state and federal territory.

Today, U Mobile has named Huawei Malaysia and ZTE Malaysia as its technology partners for Malaysia’s Next Gen 5G network. The signing ceremony was witnessed by YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Communications Minister of Malaysia, and Li Lecheng, Party Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

Today, U Mobile has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EdgePoint, an independent telecommunications infrastructure company. This collaboration will see EdgePoint become one of U Mobile’s preferred 5G in-building (IBC) infrastructure partners, playing a critical role in accelerating U Mobile’s upcoming rollout of 5G IBC infrastructure across Malaysia.

For those unaware, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chose U Mobile as the second 5G provider last year. Then in January 2025, the company received financial support from CIMB for the 5G rollout. And now, MCMC has finally given the green light.

The Communications Ministry has announced the provision of the RAHMAH incentive rebate to all Malaysians on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. In a statement, the ministry elaborated that the incentive involves a minimum of an additional 5GB of data for Malaysian prepaid and postpaid users.

To celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri season, U Mobile has introduced next-gen technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Moreover, there is also a special brand film, Suaraku, that will premiere soon and an enhanced U Family 128's Buy 1 Free 1 5G phone promotion.

Yesterday, U Mobile set a groundbreaking benchmark in the telecommunications industry. By teaming up with Huawei and using its Meta Active Antenna Unit (MetaAAU) technology, U Mobile achieved over 120Mbps of 5G network coverage during a trial run across the 13.5km of the Penang Bridge.

As U Mobile prepares to implement the second 5G network, the media got a chance to speak with Chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun about the progress. Long story short, we can expect to see the rollout in the next 15 to 18 months.

Today, U Mobile has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CIMB Bank Berhad to extend financing support for its upcoming 5G network rollout. This MoU follows the recent appointment of U Mobile as the nation’s second 5G network provider.

Global business consulting firm Frost & Sullivan recently assessed the mobile services industry and, based on its findings, recognised U Mobile with the 2024 Malaysian Company of the Year award, as part of its Best Practices Awards for the calendar year in the Mobile Services Industry. Frost & Sullivan found that U Mobile recognised the local community’s need for fast and reliable connectivity and its role in promoting digitalization for the next generation.
