We called it when Microsoft announced their VALL-E AI voice cloning project, but scammers using such AI voice cloners have already put them into action as an elderly couple were recently scammed out of $21000 Canadian dollars (~RM69115). Apparently, a “lawyer” had called the elderly couple claiming that their son had killed an American diplomat in a car accident, was in jail without a phone and needed money for legal fees.

Just last week, it was reported that MediaTek was caught cheating in benchmarking tests. Despite that, it probably won't stop benchmark boosting which is unfortunately common in the smartphone industry. To deal with this issue, UL Benchmarks announced that over 50 smartphones powered by MediaTek chipsets have been delisted once and for all.

Cheating on benchmarks isn't anything new, but it's usually something that individual devices or brands do. However, with how much importance is placed on benchmarks to determine whether a device is good, even chipmakers have decided to cheat. Recently, MediaTek was found including software that allows its chipsets to cheat on benchmarks.
