Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) today instructed banks and financial institutions in the country to stop using SMS one-time passwords (OTPs) and instead migrate to more secure authentication methods for all relevant online transactions and activities. Moreover, BNM also told banks to provide more convenient ways for customers to suspend their accounts as well as immediately alert customers when any fraudulent transactions were detected on their accounts.

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) has announced that the government will be taking the offensive, defensive and advocacy measures to tackle the cyber security issues plaguing our country. Its Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa further revealed that K-KOMM will also look at the technologies available in other countries to curb cyber crimes.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today revealed that his personal Telegram account has been hacked by ‘irresponsible individuals’. Furthermore, he also urged for anyone that have received messages from the account to disregard its content and report the matter to the authorities.

Google is looking to bolster security awareness by adding a new feature into the Chrome browser. Through the new feature, users will be alerted if their username and password has been stolen during a data breach. This feature was previously available separately through a Chrome extension.
