For years, likes and dislikes have been popular metrics for social media platforms. Plenty of platforms use them, mostly for the content itself. However, YouTube lets you like or dislike individual comments, which is a feature Instagram now wants to try.

The motive behind clicking on the 'dislike' or 'not interested' buttons on YouTube is hoping the platform will help you filter out unwanted content. However, new research claims that those buttons might not be much of a help doing that, as YouTube would still bring up similar videos.

TikTok is currently testing a ‘dislike’ feature in its comments section so as to make users feel ‘more in control’. In a recent blogpost, the massively popular app revealed that it has started testing a way to let individuals identify comments they believe as irrelevant or inappropriate.

Whenever a YouTube channel does something wrong, it will inevitably get a ton of dislikes such as the recent YouTube rewinds and the latest Shin Megami Tensei V video game review by IGN (yes, they messed up again lol). However, it has brought attention to YouTube about the dislike button and from now onwards, the dislike count will be private across the platform.
