It has been a year since Google announced its intention to invest ~RM9.4 billion in Malaysia to build its first-ever Google Data Centre and Google Cloud Region. This week, a news report by Forbes said Google authorised Gamuda with a major contract, worth RM1 billion, to build a data centre in Port Dickson.

We reported before that Google has invested ~RM9.4 billion in Malaysia for its Google Data Centre and Google Cloud Region. Today, the company held a ceremonial ground-breaking event - Mantap Malaysia Bersama AI with construction underway in Elmina Business Park, Selangor, which could project a positive economic impact and create 26,500 jobs by 2030.

After Microsoft’s RM10.5 billion investment announcement, Tengku Zafrul also said that Google would announce an investment in Malaysia soon. Today, Google marked a new milestone with the commitment of a US$2 billion (~RM9.4 billion) investment in the country, including the development of its first Google data centre and Google Cloud region here.
