Huawei and Maxis signed an agreement today on the provisioning of 5G Networks in Malaysia. It was witnessed by Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia and was signed by Michael Yuan, Huawei Chief Executive Officer and Gokhan Ogut, Maxis Chief Executive Officer. Through the agreement Maxis hopes to achieve a robust 5G network with potential speeds reaching 10Gbps.

Today, the Huawei Mate 30 series and the Watch GT 2 have arrived in Malaysia but that's not the only thing they announced. During the event, they were also presenting a new holistic ecosystem called Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) which is the current placeholder for the Mate 30 series.

Huawei Mobile Services or HMS, home of Huawei’s AppGallery, will be participating at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 (TGS 2019) from 12 September 2019 to 15 September 2019 at booth 7-C03, Hall 7. As such, they are offering 300 free passes for mobile game developers to better collaborate and optimise their games for Huawei Mobile devices which can be redeemed here (be warned, it’s in Japanese).

As Malaysia begins implementation of 5G with their testbed expansion, Huawei recently weighed in with beneficial technologies that Huawei have achieved and what could be possible for Malaysians with Huawei’s 5G tech. With Huawei developing 5G tech since 2009 and employing 180000 global employees, 25000 of which are focusing on mostly research and development in the Huawei Ox Horn Campus, beneficial 5G tech could impact every sector, of course, there’s also faster download speeds, wider coverage areas and lower latency as well.

Opensignal recently revealed another report about the global smartphone mobile network experience and it revealed that for Malaysia, Samsung and Huawei smartphone users tend to get higher download speeds than Apple smartphone users. While Samsung smartphone users got the top spot of an average 16Mbps, Huawei smartphone users were just almost there at 15Mbps. Apple smartphone users were quite close still at 13Mbps.

After the recent announcements by both US President Donald Trump and subsequently various White House officials, he has agreed to expedite or make ‘timely’ decisions (basically hurry it up) regarding special licenses for US companies like Google to sell to Huawei. Initially, US President Donald Trump said that Huawei would be allowed to do so, but afterwards White House officials said otherwise.

Zhang Minggang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Huawei France mentions that they will be stronger than ever by then. With all the restrictions and bans due to the trade war with the US, it’s hardly surprising that the company wants out.
