Apple really makes all kinds of patents, but some just seem to fit with what they're doing at the time like this patent describing a design for flexible batteries. The patent itself was filed in December 2011 but it covers the design of a flexible battery pack which allows the battery to be shaped to fit a form factor of an electronic device. Apart from being perfectly suited for Apple's upcoming iWatch, the isolated cell design allows it to be more reliable in that in case one of the cells fail the other cells will not fail together. While it seems to fit with the iWatch, this flexible battery design could just as well be used in any of Apple's other devices.

In a move that practically confirms that Apple is working on a smartwatch called the iWatch, Apple recently applied for the iWatch trademark in Russia. Reported in Russian newspapers Apple applied for two trademarks under the name iWatch at Rospatent, which is Russia's patent agency.

The next step in smart devices seem to be the wearable ones, with many saying that Apple's next big thing is going to be an "iWatch". However, Samsung have also reiterated that they will also come out with a smartwatch or similar device as well. In a Bloomberg report, Samsung VP Lee Young Hee was quoted as "We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them."
