Bad Internet mobile performance is a norm amongst many Malaysians and we love complaining about it. But that might change because the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will start imposing regulatory action on service providers who have failed to offer quality Internet services.

The proposed merger between two of Malaysia’s biggest telco companies, Celcom and Digi has been in the works for quite some time now. Previously, we reported that the merger is set to be completed in the second half of 2022 but now, it seems that it may extend for a bit longer as the long stop date for their share purchase agreement (SPA) has been extended to 31 December 2022.

A new study by Visa have found that 93 percent of consumers in Southeast Asia have embraced cashless payment methods, including cards, contactless cards and mobile contactless, mobile wallets and QR code payments. Furthermore, the study found that 74 percent of Malaysian consumers have successfully gone cashless.

The Malaysian government is reportedly set to impose tax on imported low value goods (LVG) starting from 1 January 2023.
