Samsung Electronics is preparing to phase out older low-power memory standards, with reports confirming that the company has stopped accepting new orders for LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X chips. With this, the company is moving forward with LPDDR5 once the predecessors run out.

A new report highlights how the global memory chip crunch is no longer a short-cycle but a structural shift, with supply expected to lag demand for years as artificial intelligence workloads take priority across the semiconductor industry. Memory manufacturers are projected to meet only about 60% of global demand by 2027, signalling a prolonged shortage with no immediate relief in sight.

Like the other tech brands, Lenovo has warned its channel partners that prices for select commercial devices could rise in early March 2026 as global memory chip shortages continue to squeeze margins across the technology industry. The pricing update is expected to affect a range of products from Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group (IDG) portfolio, which includes commercial laptops, desktops, tablets and smartphones.

Samsung has introduced the industry's first Graphics Double Data Rate 6 (GDDR6) DRAM memory chip that provides speeds of 24Gb/s. The chip will deliver approximately 33% faster performance than the previous 18Gb/s solutions while consuming less power.

Samsung has released a new memory chip today and it's said to be a perfect fit for 5G low-cost devices. The new LPDDR5 uMCP (UFS-based MCP) is a multichip package that combines the company’s fastest LPDDR5 DRAM with the latest UFS 3.1 NAND flash in a single package. Currently, the product is the first such smartphone memory solution appearing in the industry.
