Malaysia’s communications regulator has blocked access to the websites of two international dating platforms, Grindr and Blued, as authorities step up efforts to enforce domestic digital content laws. The action was confirmed in Parliament by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has already restricted access to the sites while evaluating next steps.

A parliamentary select committee on women, children and community development has sharply criticised the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for its “glaring shortcomings” in regulating online gaming and pornography, issues that affect minors and internet users at large. The report, published on 2 December 2025, calls into question both the commission’s financial commitment and its overall capacity to safeguard internet safety.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has assured that the government has no plans to create new laws or specific Acts for the purpose of regulating social media platforms. Furthermore, he stressed that the government has never even announced any intention to draft such legislation.
