In October last year, we shared how the Sarawak State Government, through Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to acquire MASWings Sdn Bhd for the proposed Sarawak-owned boutique airline. Now, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg has given an update on the proposal, revealing that the airline is expected to take off in 2025.

It’s no secret that since its launch on 2 January, the Central Database Hub (PADU) has faced scrutiny from the public, the number of people updating their info on the database is still low despite the due date being just a mere 7 days away. With the Sarawak Government also voicing reservations about PADU, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed Economy Minister Rafizi Ramil to clarify the database’s registration issue at the Cabinet Meeting next week.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has revealed that a total of 2.69 million individuals have registered for the Central Database Hub (PADU) as of yesterday (6 February). Furthermore, DOSM also asserted that Kelantan recorded one of the highest sign-up rates in the country.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has announced that the government has agreed to subsidise the purchase of economy flight tickets from Peninsula Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan during festive seasons. Prices will be capped at RM599 for a one-way trip, starting with the Christmas period later this month.

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) has revealed that over 220,000 or up to 60 per cent of tablets under the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme have been distributed to students nationwide. Overall, K-KOMM has received 470,000 applications and approximately 350,000 have been approved.

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) has revealed that 4G broadband coverage in the populated areas of Sarawak has increased to 82.84 per cent in the second quarter of 2022. In comparison, prior to the implementation of the National Digital Network (JENDELA) Plan Phase 1 (2020-2022), the coverage was at 73.67 per cent.

The Sarawak state government has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Melexis Technology, a Belgium-based global supplier of micro-electronic semiconductor solutions which will pave the way for the state to produce its own integrated chips (IC). Among others, the MoU entails cooperation in IC design and semi-conductor talent development in the state as part of Sarawak’s innovation and talent development programme.
