While there are waterproofed smartphones, most smartphones don't perform very well when splashed or dropped into water or other liquids. However, people get careless and there are now just as many of us bringing our smartphones into the bathroom with us for some light reading or media consumption. While taking your smartphone apart and drying it out may result in a working smartphone the next day other solutions like shaking it about or using a hair dryer (or worse) to evaporate the water may end up being the cause of permanent damage rather than the water itself.
