Today, it has been reported that Sugarbook founder and CEO, Darren Chan was arrested by the Selangor police. As most of you already know, the company got themselves in hot water for sharing the top 10 sugar baby universities in Malaysia.

Well, it has finally happened - Sugarbook got blocked in Malaysia. From our report yesterday, MCMC and the PDRM are now investigating the dating social network and claimed that it has violated Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998 for "illegal" activities (but no proof yet). However, Sugarbook members can still access via a new URL website.

Following the recent controversial statistic report provided by Sugarbook, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) just stated that they are working with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on investigating the dating app.

Yesterday, we reported that SeekingArrangement, a Sugar Dating platform announcing that there are 42,500 sugar daddies in Malaysia. Mind you, that ranks Malaysia in third place but what about Malaysian sugar babies? Well, Sugarbook provided us with the statistics and there are over 14,000 of them who are still studying in universities.

Based on an article by malaymail.com, it seems that a local sugar baby by the name of Natalie has donated her entire monthly allowance to the Sungai Buloh Hospital. In terms of items, she donated various essentials including food supplies, toiletries, portable air-conditioners and more which the hospital was lacking at that time.

Sugarbook? Isn't that the online dating platform that had their billboard ads taken down by DBKL last year? Yes, that's the same company and they are back once again! Apparently, the company have been doing quite well despite the negative perception received from the public. In fact, during this Movement Control Order period, the company is experiencing a ton of online activities spiking up the traffic. And yes, Malaysians are the top customer.

Online dating platforms are developed for us to meet people that are outside of our social circles. However, there are also other platforms that have different purposes, as they allow you to look for a person to be in a mutually beneficial relationship that involves money. It seems like Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) don’t really like the idea of it and they have taken down billboards of the dating platform Sugarbook earlier this week.
