Google I/O 2021 has been scheduled to take place starting from 18 to 20 May. At the event, the tech giant could be announcing Android 12, Pixel 5a smartphone, and more. However, a session titled "Create your first Tile in Wear" has caught attention by signaling that the Wear OS could be getting a big update.

It seems that Casio has recently uploaded a new video on their YouTube channel hinting that the Casio GSW-H1000 watch will be launching very soon, and it’s equipped with Google’s Wear OS pre-installed. With that being said, the watch will have access to the Google Play Store.

For those who are unaware, Samsung uses its in-house Tizen software for some of its products. Most of them are Samsung's smart TVs and smartwatches. But sources claim that the company could be ditching Tizen for its upcoming smartwatches.

The current Wear OS allows users to install third-party apps that are also installed on users' smartphones. However, it looks like this feature is going away as Google is trying to emphasize the presence of Wear OS apps on the Play Store. It is said that the new plan will take effect starting from 10 March.

Earlier rumour has suggested that OnePlus is finally planning to enter the smartwatch market after many years. Now, the good news has arrived with the CEO confirming that the company is indeed working on a smartwatch after all. Other than that, the CEO has also revealed that the wearable will come with Google's Wear OS.

With how widely used smartphones are these days, it makes sense for the OS to be updated fastest. On the other hand, Wear OS seems to have gotten the short end of the stick in recent years, as it is still stuck on Android 9. But now Google seems to be ready for a major upgrade to Wear OS.

Android smartphones may already be looking to upgrade to Android 11 soon, but most Wear OS devices are still stuck on Android 9. While there won't be a major overhaul soon, a nice little update is now available. Specifically, Google added hardware acceleration to Wear OS recently.
