  • Lenovo's 'Fancy Maker' brand to compete with Xiaomi via a similar online business model

Lenovo's 'Fancy Maker' brand to compete with Xiaomi via a similar online business model

Xiaomi, once a small Chinese manufacturer has now emerged as the world's fourth largest smartphone maker. The company has managed this feat just by operating online, through exclusive tie-ups with a number of online retailers worldwide. Looks like Lenovo is taking some pointers from Xiaomi as the company Senior Vice President, Chen Xudong announced last Thursday that it would soon launch a new brand called the 'Fancy Maker' which will operate via online channels only. The name sounds unlike any other smartphone brand that we have heard recently. It could offer features like the Motorola's Moto Maker which allows users to customize a number of aspects of a smartphone like the final finish, color accents and so forth. Lenovo has been trying to compete with Xiaomi through budget models like the Lenovo K3. But so far, its smartphones have failed to create a buzz like Xiaomi's Redmi 1S and Mi-3 models. This new Fancy Maker brand could be Lenovo's new strategy to compete with Xiaomi. The company will reportedly debut the brand on 1 April 2015. Apart from the name 'Fancy Maker', Lenovo has not officially revealed any other details like Malaysia release dates or pricing about its upcoming smartphone brand but it could come to Malaysia eventually.

  • Xiaomi announces smartphone connected Mi Air Purifier for 899RMB (RM505)

Xiaomi announces smartphone connected Mi Air Purifier for 899RMB (RM505)

Xiaomi has just announced a new product in the market called the Mi Air Purifier. The device does exactly what it's name suggestsin that it sucks in polluted air to give out lung friendly air. It is extremely small but powerful enough to purify all of your air in the house. The Mi Air Purifier features two fans and four air ducts which can filter out 10000 liters of clean air per minute. Its inbuilt filter can remove 99.99% PM2.5 particles from the air. The PM2.5 particles are those which are below 2.5 micrometers in size. This category of particles contains things like soot, dust, smoke and even liquids which are not easy to filter out and can damage your lungs. So this air purifier can come in handy for people who live in areas where air is polluted like Beijing and other parts of the world. You can control a number of aspects of the device as well as get alerts via your smartphone. It also displays the current air quality level. The Mi Air Purifier is currently available for pre-order in China for 899 RMB which comes to around RM505. As of now, Xiaomi has no plans to release it outside of China but eventually it could arive here with Xiaomi Malaysia.
