A few weeks ago, we reported that the India Government was looking into banning several mobile apps from China due to security reasons. They have already banned TikTok in their country and now with the latest update - a total of 118 mobile apps are blocked.

According to an official press release by the Ministry of Electronics and IT on the ban, the ban is due to the "information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order". With this, they decided to invoke the ban under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read. On top of that, they also said that they received many complaints from various sources about how the mobile apps misused, steal and transmit their data outside of India without their permission.

Among the 118 mobile apps, the most notable ones include WeChat, PUBG Mobile, Alipay, Taobao, Arena of Valor, and many more. Interestingly, we also spotted "Malay Social Dating App to Date & Meet Singles" on the list and wondered if it has anything to do with our country (lol). Anyway, if you want to check out the full list, you can head over here.

The pressure between TikTok and the US Government is still ongoing. At the moment, Microsoft is keen on acquiring the company and WeChat's days are numbered thanks to President Trump's executive order ban. We will continue to keep an eye on this so stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
