A 16-year-old woman died recently after attempting the ‘scarf game’, a viral challenge on TikTok similar to the infamous ‘blackout challenge’ that claimed several lives last year. The teen, Christy Sibali Dominique Gloire Gassaile was found dead at her home in France on 27 May.
As reported by the New York Post, the challenge involves fastening a cloth around the neck to asphyxiate yourself until passing out. Like any other trend on TikTok, the challenge is for alleged internet clout.

Such an act is dangerous as it restricts the oxygen flow to the brain, potentially causing seizures, serious injury and sadly in the case of Gassaile, death. It is unknown how such a dangerous act could end up being a viral trend on TikTok, though the company has since removed all content relating to the challenge.
The social media platform didn’t release a statement regarding this latest death originating from a dangerous challenge on its platform. Should you find any dangerous acts or harmful content on the platform, you can report the video by following our guide here. Accordingly, let’s hope that TikTok would be more strict on such content in the future!
