32-core CPU for Apple Macs could be available in 2021

The Apple M1-powered Macs launched about a month ago have proven to be better than their Intel counterparts. This shows that Apple's transition to the ARM architecture was the correct one and we can expect more powerful chipsets in the future. In fact, there's already news about next year's chipset.

According to Bloomberg (via Gizmochina), Apple has started development for a few new chipsets, including a successor for the Apple M1. Some of these chipsets could be available by 2021 and among them is a chipset that allegedly has up to 32 high-performance CPU cores. However, note that we're not sure if this means it's a chipset with 32 CPU cores, or if it's a combination of 32 high-performance cores with efficiency cores on top of that.

Besides the chipset with 32 CPU cores, the report indicates that there could be at least three other chipsets. There is going to be a 20-core (16x high-performance cores and 4x efficient cores) chipset, as well as two chipsets that feature 8x and 12x high-performance cores. From what we can tell, the 8-core chipset could be the direct successor for the Apple M1, while the chipsets with more CPU cores will be used for higher-end Macs.

Details are quite vague at the moment, but the fact that Apple is working on more powerful chipsets is likely true. In that case, it might be worth waiting for the next generation of Apple Macs to launch before upgrading. But what do you think?
