360 degree folding display screen could decrease crease in next Samsung Galaxy Fold Z

Apparently, Samsung Display showed off their “Flex In & Out” 360 degree foldable display concept to certain media during CES 2023 and it’s got a number of benefits that would be great for the next Samsung Galaxy Fold Z. Built using a teardrop hinge the prototype can fold both ways and is designed to decrease the crease significantly.

To accommodate the 360 degree fold, the new hinge lets the foldable display lay somewhat looser than current Samsung Galaxy Fold Z displays which in turn makes the crease disappear almost entirely. In addition, it also lets the sides fold flat next to each other, without any gap.

Is this both way fold for the next Galaxy Z Fold?

Would this use an under-display camera to take selfies? How would you take photos with the rear camera?

The botton teardrop hinge almost eliminates the crease because the display lays looser than before

We mentioned this before when LG unveiled their 360 degree foldable display, but it would mean that there would only need to be one display as folding it up would protect the screen while folding it completely out would let you use it like a normal-sized smartphone. The other clear advantage of doing that would mean significant energy savings but it would also make it harder to take selfies or use the rear cameras.

While Samsung did come out with under-display front cameras for their Galaxy Z Fold before, they weren’t on the same level as the rear cameras at all. So while this 360 degree hinge could be a thing for the next Galaxy Z Fold, Samsung would have to do some serious thinking about the cameras as taking photos while the phone is folded is not fun in our experience.

What do you think? Would it be too early for this to appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 5? Or is it more likely to appear in next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com.

With enough practice, I suppose you could take photos like this - Sorry, this is an older Galaxy Z Fold
