At the recent CES 2023, LG Display announced that their 8-inch 360 degree Foldable OLED can fold and unfold both ways. While this form factor reminds us of the first Huawei Mate X which had a foldable display on the outside, this new LG Foldable display could mean a tablet that could become a laptop, a tablet and a phone using a single foldable display.
According to LG, the 8-inch 360 degree Foldable OLED can withstand up to 200000 folds but this doesn’t exactly indicate how durable the screen actually is. While the hinge has been designed to minimize any creases LG have not indicated whether or not this display will be featured in any upcoming tablets or phones.
We expect that using a single foldable display could possibly save on energy and extend battery life. A 360 degree foldable display also could mean no exposed display at all, extending the lifespan of the device. Perhaps this could get used in the next Microsoft Surface Duo 3? What do you think?
